I just drilled up a H2O. Pin above fingers about 5.5 inches from pap the mass bias is kicked out past the VAL. Box finish. Have 1 series with it so far. The ball is very clean through the heads and mids with a big move on the back and good carry. I've had some success standing deep and bouncing it off of the dry. It is very oil sensitive. If I miss into the dry early it comes up high. If I get a little to fast it leaves a washout. Lots of strikes and splits so far. I was thinking of trying 4000 grit to even it out a bit. Any thoughts?

what you describe is exactly what I know from my H2O.

My first guess is that you are using the ball on too much oil with the current cover prep.

I did not "dull" mine but keep it in a high polish state to have something when it gets dry but I guess with that 4000 you can't do too much wrong...

Try it - I would say and see how it works... it not I would even go further down to 2000.

This was what I have done with my Tsunami... skidded too much around and was "o/u" so I took it to 800 and polished it slightly back up to get a more even reaction.

I was running into this problem with alot of my equipment. Turns out, it was the way I was swinging the ball, not the ball itself. I fixed the problem by throwing my HRG on a more direct line. I play just inside that dry area, so a miss right will just bump the dry. I have been scoring much higher since playing straighter with weaker equipment.

The H2O is a fairly mild ball and I have a pretty weak drill on it. Playing straighter isn't an option for me as I have more revs than speed. I'll try the 4000 grit and report back.

I tried the ball at 4000 and there was no real difference. This was in a different house with a very severe wet/dry and the ball was all but useless. The reaction varied radically with minor speed/release/trajectory changes. I think I'll polish this ball up with control it and use it when there's a lot of dry. I'm disapointed. I was expecting more from this ball.
I am always seeking a ball that will cover my mistakes, but this one seems to magnify them.

Oh, nevermind.
I read your profile and see that you are trying to throw the ball with no thumb. If that is the case, you are trying to force the ball to work under the wrong circumstances. When your rev rate exceeds your speed, you are going to play hell with any reactive ball when it bumps the dry. Couple this with a lack of accuracy, and it will all add up to a frustrating outing.

My recommendation:
Don't worry about covering boards, and play what the lanes give you. Don't try to force a reaction that is not conducive to the lane conditions.

pearl reactive will ALWAYS magnify mistakes

you need a polished solid, or a pearl particle, something to smooth out the lanes

We talked a lot in pm when I had to throw nothumb last year. Out of all the things that I tried last year, the ones that worked well for me were, Semi Pin axis drilled Tsunami box finish, Polished up Super Carbide standard pin under ring drill with cg kicked out, a V2 sanded with a similar drill to super carbide except it was pin over ring, and a Uranium HRG that was drilled 5-1/2" x 3" with the pin about 1-1/2" above the fingers. We had a very dry wall that if you hit it before say about 35', it was going left and in a hurry. If you pulled it too far into the oil it would go dead straight. I would either sand the H2O down farther or try a Tsunami with the pin very close to your pap. I am using a Cherry Pearl C/2 right now but throwing with my thumb again since it healed. I tried it nothumb and wow does it move. I have not thrown it on the shot that I bowled on last year since I am not bowling there but I imigine that I could not control it at all.

Thanx to Kalannar and trigerman. I appreciate your constructive comments. I will probably just save this ball for toast as it is so oil sensitive. I wonder if it is cover or core that causes this look? Once the ball turns over it has a great look, but it sometimes never turns at all and looks a lot like a pancake cored pearl ureathane going down the lane. I never had a look like this in anything I've ever drilled. Confused am I. It's almost like the ball needs a lot of axis tilt to rev up. If I'm a little too end over end the ball does nothing.

I had an H2O and didn't care for it that much. I liked the Tsunami more. But I may have been spoiled with Cherry Pearl that I had previously to that. I got the H2O as a replacement to the CP and was disappointed. The Tsunami with a more standard drill on it before the plug and redrill to SPA was a descent ball until the heads started to break down. The SPA drill worked better for a longer duration but was very dependant on how much you put on the ball. No lift = no hook.

I can't remember, have you tried the B/G Centaur on that shot yet? I just got one but haven't tried it nothumb yet. I have only used it mildly in practice on a fresh shot and for my spares which is what I bought it for. May be what you are looking for on that condition. Or the new Liberty by Lane 1. Solid urethane with the original diamond. That shouldn't jump on you.

on edit: When did you get the H2O? Triggs, was the H2O one of the balls that was in this whole Brunswick selloff of Lane #1 balls?

I just picked up the H20 and it probably is one of the "defective" brunswick balls. I heard about this from my proshop. I never saw it discussed in this forum although I probably just missed it.

I got mine from this selloff but my H2O works very good... only drawback is that I drilled it too strong for my needs...

well funny thing, no? Your ball is too weak for your needs and mine is as strong as my weaker drilled Tsunami and therefor... too strong and no use for me atm

It isn't the weakness of the ball but the erratic nature of the break that irks me. I can always find a place for weaker pieces. I just need to know what the ball will do.
