Surface on a Supernova XP
« on: June 28, 2009, 03:17:09 AM »
Hello-

I just picked up  one an XP and it caame at a matte finish. I haven't even thrown it yet due to current work life balance.

I know when this ball came out their was a question of surface as some came polished from the factory, while some came at a matte finish. I was wondering what the users of this ball found to be the best surface for performance of this ball. I do realize that obviously different surface changes work for different styles, different conditions. Still wanted some input on what users found worked best for them on this ball, as I do not recall any ball I have owned over the years being distributed from the factory with different surfaces. Has anyone tried both and was their a radical difference in shape of ball path?  Thanks everyone.

if memory serves me, there were 2 different surface preps in the very beginning.
some came matte, and some came highly polished.

i liked 1000 abralon plus black magic personally

Mine came matte. I immediately added Storm ReactaShine to it and it's an absolute gem. Great for mediums of all ranges. Probably the most versatile of the post-Brunswick Lane #1 balls I've thrown so far.

Mine is shiny. I haven't drilled it yet but hope to within the next couple weeks or so.

Just wondering if anyone has ever had to knock the shine down a bit???

Mine too. The only change I've made is to refresh with Valentino Resurrection, and then a light application of Snake Oil polish. It's similar to OOB, with just a little more shine and push through the heads.

The XP is usually the first ball out of my bag. It's been very versatile and effective on both THS and PBA/Sport patterns.

Sig not currently in use. I'm not interested in playing games.

Steven, where do you have the Pin & CG placed on your ball?

First off, thank you  to everyone for the input and feedback! I finally got a chance to throw it in league tonight. I left it at matte rather then take it for a ride on my spinner just to see how it would act. Though the shot was slicker then usual( Vegas synthetics) and I would have matched up better with my rouge cell, I just had to throw the new one. After all this is summer league.

I am impressed with this ball! Though I am a tweener that usually swings it, this is likely the best down and in THS ball I have thrown since the old Brunswick Attitude III. After struggling and learning the ball for the first game (Yikes 163!)on an easy house shot. I increased speed while moving right, playing up the boards to finish with 238 and 226.

This ball allowed me to venture into a line that I haven't been able to play while getting a ball to hit and carry in years.

Consistent reaction and very true off the break.

It won't WOW your neighbors but you'll score with very little effort. I will try it in different surfaces once my work life slows allowing me time to practice.

Thanks again everyone!
