i recieved a gorgeous Golden Nugget that is getting redrilled tomorrow. i am a leftie, the ball is 14 lbs, has a 4 inch pin.

i turn medium revs, nothing special, with a good deal of axis rotation (track about 3" from fingers, 2" from thumb, more at times)

i want this ball to clear medium condition heads and begin moving about 35-40 feet, and just MOVE. i want it to handle some carrydown.

my thought is CG on the palm, pin about an inch and a half above the fingers, 12 o'clock. this is like, a straight up label drill. a long, strong backend ball. i had a V2 drilled this way and i LOVED it.

do you think i can find the look i want with this drill? should i try something else?

Might I suggest a 4 x 3.5 drilling. Mine clears the heads nicely and turns hard at the backend. It does handle carrydown as much as expected. You seen mine and that is how mine is laid out. Check with Doug Sterner. He can help.

Kick cg slightly let maybe an inch positive and you are going to cut through carrydown much better, ball might be too long say 5 x 5 so charles is right in there i say 5 x 3 1/2 myself that is closer to your v2 drill but gets ball to start just alittle earlier.

Boiled down, this is what we have...  I thnk you mean axis tilt (as opposed to rotation)... as you track lower on the ball.  The GN is a particle pearl with a medium RG (2.53-2.57) and a medium Diff (0.034).  My personal experience is that these balls have pretty decent length (due to the pearl cover and medium strength core) but are abel to handle some carry down becasue they are particle.  Due to your lower track, you probably are not going to have much trouble getting the ball down the lane.. even on medium-dry conditions.  With average revs and lower track, the trouble becomes having a stronger backend reaction (especially on carry down without clean backends).  To cover this condition (with the pin to cg distance), I would recommend placing the pin even height with your fingers (or just above as i hate drilling into the pin of a ball.. just asking for it to crack out), approx 4" from you PAP..  this would likely be somewhere left of your ring finger.  I would place the cg somehwere in the 3.5-4" range from your PAP (depending on your actual span, this layout will likely put the cg below your mid-line and depending on the top weight of the ball, will likely leave you with > 1oz of side and thumb weight.  Put a weight hole in the ball on the line from your center of grip through the cg of the ball, approx 1" past your vertical axis line (because of lower track and average revs, no worry about flaring over the hole).  I would use as small a hole as possible trying to get the ball back to around 3/4 side and 3/4 thumb.

went with a 5x3.5 drill. the pin was a bit too long to get the 5x4 with my PAP location, it woulda been a negative drill... i am very pleased with it, i just wish lane 5 hadn't bitten a peice off on one of my spare shots!!!
