OK since some of you are begging for new topics, here is one for you.....
We hear people gloat about how there has not been a Lane 1 ball on TV yet. My question is...why not?
What is keeping independent touring pros from using Lane 1 balls and scoring with them on the pro tour?
Is it the money? The technology? The fact that Lane 1 can't offer HUGE multi-million $$$ contracts?
Let's get the opinions of all...except for the one person who we all know his opinion already :-)

I thought you couldn't use Lane #1 on TV because they didn't cough up the bucks to the PBA. Isn't that so?

Lane 1 was approved and the money paid to allow Lane 1 bowling balls to be used in the PBA, but the fee was not paid to th PWBA and can not be used on the PWBA Tour. Rudy Revs does throw Lane 1, but I don't know of any other PBA member that still uses Lane 1 on a regular base.
I think if someone like WRW threw Lane 1 bowling balls, Lane 1 would easily been in the winners circle, I just don't think Lane 1 a a company as the resources to spend the money needed to get the big time bowlers to use their equipment. Maybe in the future.

Lane 1 does provide balls to some of the regional players. Rudy is the only National player that I know of. From what I hear it is a matter of advertising budget. They may be dropping the PBA because it is draining their budget. I hope they don't.

Maybe Lane#1 is too stingy on handing out their secret decoder rings to belong to the "Lane#1 inner circle".
I know if I were a pro, unless they made a serious effort to provide me with info & support, I would probably go with someone else. There are too many other companies who far too willing to help out their consumers & pros to choose a clique like Lane#1 over the others.

I am 90% sure that Michael Haugen made the show with the Pro Purple once, and maybe the Black Rasp. the other time.
For sure on the Pro Purple, not sure what he used the other time, '99 or 2000 I believe.
Just saw him today, too, could have asked him for sure.

Could it be Lane 1's management? What I am getting at is look at Storm. It hasn't been very many years ago that Storm had some terrific balls, yet you hardley ever saw a pro throwing one. And on top of that, it seems that Storm came out with very few balls each year, but when they did, it was a good one. Then as personnel changed in Storm, it seems they began making more and more balls and at the same time started sponsering more and more Pro's. Of coarse Brunswick may have aided Storm when Brunswick dropped a bunch of Pro's both men and women, and particularly women. I know that Ebonite benefited from Brunswick doing that, and could Storm recognized the possible potential at that same time, or did the new or added personel in Storm simply go after the Pro's. To sum it up, did Storm grow and do it on their own and could Lane 1 do the same thing if they applied themselves, or was it Brunswick that enabled Storm to be what they are today and Lane 1 needs a similiar opportunity to enable them to do the same?

I recall hearing that Haugen threw Lane 1 all week to qualify for the show but when he was on the show I thiought he was using Visionary stuff. Wasn;t it the Cahrcoal Executioner on one lane and a Crimson on the other???

Maybe the PRO'S think the lane 1 balls are too expensive and find that you can get something BETTER .. CHEAPER ... HAHAHAHA Only kidding!

Haugen has been on Visionary staff the past 2 years.
Maybe there's no Lane 1 on TV because the top 96% of the guys on tour don't throw Lane 1. And the ones that make the show on a consistant basis are in the top 15% of the PBA and they can score with whatever you give them. And maybe Lane 1 balls have such dramatic differentials(with exception to maybe 3 or 4) that all of that extra flare isn't needed on tour when trying to read and control the reaction(especially with the average revrate on tour being somewhere in the high 300s to the low 400s, and qualifying conditions breaking down so quickly that lower flare drillings with more aggressive coverstocks see to work best). So even if you take one of these "saws" with a flare potential of 6-8 inches and drill it rather weak you'll still get more flare and a sharper reaction than needed.
Face it, most buzzsaws are mainly for the rev challenged league bowler with no hand(and extra $$) that wants to be able to throw the ball right, lope it through the midlane and let the super dynamic core take over and create a big reaction so he can impress his buddies with this "super ball that hooks and hits so much harder than anything on the market". <end run on sentence>
I wonder if anyone thought of that?.

I am just diving into the Lane 1 equipment. Infact, I only have one Lane 1 ball and I do not have it yet. I should have it next week---XXXL. The stuff is very expensive, that is why I have not gone that route yet. The XXL has my interst right now, as does the newer one coming out (I am going to name it wrong) the black cherry bomb or something along those lines.
Anyways, I think a smaller company like Lane 1 has to get the name out there. For instance, last year when WRW was using C300 one week and Dynothane the next, SIGN HIM UP!!! With his name, and proven abilities in the past (and present) he would have been a lock to make shows. If he is would have been the only one out there that Lane 1 had to pay, they would have made that money back and ALOT more.
They could have signed other big named bowlers that have the ability to get on the show and promote their stuff. Mike Aulby rings a bell.
With the recent popularity of the Cherry Bomb, Lane 1 is getting more recongnition from league bowlers, and ultimately they are the ones that "pay the bills".

I just dived into Lane 1 a week and a half ago with my first Lane 1 purchase (Blueberry Buzzsaw) and I love it so much that I wouldn't trade it for any ball in my bag which includes a new Inferno. After this experience, Lane is all I will buy from now on.

His 1st time on TV was '98 with Lane #1.
I know for sure that he threw the Pro purple, and in '99 I cant remember which ball it was.
Yes he is with Visionary now and the other 2 times he was on the show he did throw the Executioners.

According to the Visionary website Haugen threw the Green Gargoyle.........????...????????

A lot of valid points brought up already. The main reason Saws aren’t on TV is cost. For the pros it’s a matter of economics. They can arrive at the site and buy balls off the truck from the other manufacturers for dealer cost, say around $60. Dealer cost on the Saws are probably around $110. $50 difference is the number I’ve heard mentioned.
If you figure the guys drill up 4-5 balls per stop, that extra $200 - $250 is a large investment to make every week, especially for the lesser known players out there just trying to make a living.
Since Lane 1 can’t afford the incentive money the larger companies can put up, the top qualifiers don’t use their equipment or are sponsored and can’t use the equipment.

I bowled with Haugen at the US Open for the past two years. Two years ago Haugen used Lane 1 equipment. He did use Visionary also two years ago. Then I seen him last year at the Open and he was using Visionary, but then again right after the US Open two years ago, Visionary sponsored Haugen. Michael Haugen is a great guy also. I was wearing my Lane 1 shirt two years ago and he walked up to me and started to talk to me about Lane 1 equipment. Great guy.
