OLD Buzzsaw owners, I need HELP.....
« on: November 27, 2004, 11:49:06 PM »
I won a Buzzsaw on eBay last night. It was listed as a "Pro-Buzzsaw", but it is "black" in color??? It looks as if it could be a "black Pro Purple". Any ideas??? I spoke with JPRLane1 about "trying" to put the link here. I could NOT figure out how to do it, I was born TOO long ago!!! Maybe he will be kind enough to do that?!? The item# is 7115351902. THANKS in advance.........

Take care,   Jeff

Hi,
I looked at the ad number you gave and at the Pro Purple Buzzsaw listed under Lane #1 balls----it looks to be the same ball from the pics on your item number on ebay. Why it is black in color is something you can email Lane#1 about. They are very good at answering questions from users of their equipment and those interested in buying their equipment.
 Hope this helps!!!!!!!!

Although the picture is of an apparently black ball, the only Buzzsaw I recall that had the "Pro - Buzzsaw" actually engraved on it was the Pro Purple Buzzsaw.

The Pro Purple is THE major control ball; it was a particle pearl that came with a very mild polish, hardly shined at all. It had medium-low RG with a very low RG differential, which translated into veyr little flare. The cover was strong enough, depending on drilling and hand to handle medium- light to medium-heavy oil patterns, with, of course, mediums being its strength.

The cover is Brunswick's 2nd issue particle cover; as such it is manipulated with Trizact pads PERFECTLY, and will last virtually forever, with the tiniest bit of care.

Obviously I owned one (two, actually) and I loved it. YOu can take it with you everywhere and be assured you can always get to the pocket with it. Ideal for sport shots and PBS patterns and any flat oil shots where you need som control.

I would NOT drill it at the extremes; keep it somewhere in the middle.

Thanks for the reply charlest I agree with all the info you provided.  We are both very familiar with the pro purple and what its all about. Jeff (straightup7) has had one or more of them before and I have one NIB waiting to be drilled.  We were just simply trying to figure out whether or not this is simply a "pro purple" that is black in color or if it were another cover/core combo that they used the same logo's on.

It's a Pro Purple color is just bad I think.

Lane #1 did have a Black Buzzsaw that was approved by PBA back in 12/1992.  I had the original Purple which was the same as the Pro Purple.  I remember the Purple was the reactive resin and the Black was a urethane.

JPR,

Before I replied, I looked thru all the buzzsaws in BowlingBallReviews.com's discontinued lsitings, just to refresh my meory, as I am by no means a Lane#1 expert. I did not see any that had the "Pro Buzzsaw" label. (Aside: Remember the Pro Purple had the "C" core, one internal diamond, not the "C2" core's twin internal diamonds.)

As for why it's black in the Ebay pictures, there are many possible reasons. It was oddly, very black with no bluish or purplish highlights.

It could very well be another ball.

Major OOOPS!
Just checked my records and realized I sold striaghtup7 my used 16 lb Pro Purple; so I gave him my Pro Purple story all over again. Sorry, Jeff.

I was just doing the same thing. The only ball I saw in all the buzzsaws with Pro on it was the Pro Purple. Logos are the same as well. My guess is is this ball was a "special" release for someone on tour maybe (or say a pro-am ball), a color blem, or somebody at Lane 1 decided to make a "black" pro purple saw. I too am not an expert at saws but those are my guesses. Strange.....

Charlest you have made you first mistake the Pro Purple is simply the original diamond core, that is one big diamond no nuggets.  You were right on with the coverstock.

Scotts you have made several.  The first three buzzsaws were black, purple, and teal all reactive resin and all orig. diamond core.  The just came out of box at different finishes, one sanded, one polished, and one matte.  After these balls then come the Pro Purple some think of it as a remake of the orig. purple but with its particle pearl shell I really don't think of it as a remake altyhough they do share the same core and they are purple.  There has never been an exact remake of either the orig. purple or pro purple so to speak.

Hi CharlesT, I was going to remind you of your (my) ProPurple; it is still in my driller's shop (I have NOT decided on how to redrill it??). Thank you Scott and Laner7, I messaged the seller about the ball before the end of the auction and asked him about the ball; he said it is black, that is all he knows... And especially, THANK YOU Jesse (JPRLane1), for keeping "my find quiet"; I know that you were dying to ask someone about this ball. THANKS again........ Maybe DrillWizard or Beans will chime in soon. I guess, I need to go to Lane 1, and ask "the Man"!!!

Did you enjoy the game today Jesse? GO Panthers.......

Take care,   Jeff

Well here I am ......lol!!! I have been really busy opening up my second shop...The best I can tell you is that I would bet and I am 85% possitive that ball is a test ball..Of what I have no idea...I have a few test balls that are just very solid balls with that logo on it.. It could be a Black Raspberry test ball...It can be any ball really...I have a solid green test ball that is like the color of the Army Green BOMB but is clearly reactive...It has those same logos on it. By the way Jesse,  Where did you get that NIB Pro Purple (Wink, wink) I still made out in that deal...  Later Guys  beans

Sorry LANE1 B,

I believe that Mr Buzzsaw said (when he answered JPRLane1's question) that it is the original "diamond" core with a PK18 cover. And yes, it was a "test ball". Go to Lane1's website and check it out. Sorry about the delay, I meant to post Mr Buzzsaw's answer...

Take care,   Jeff

Howdy HammerB,

I have not seen (or received) the ball yet. But, I do believe that it is "black". DrillWizard sent me a message telling me to call Lane1 and ask for Chuck, give him the serial number and he could tell me what the ball is. I did not want to bother my ball driller (and have him call), so I asked Jesse to e-mail my question to Lane1 (he is already registered; and I am LAZY!!!). As far as Lane1 being "overpriced", well maybe? All I can say is; "They roll well for me!!!". My only "8" came while throwing a "Pearl Carbide". I think my favorite ball is the "Black Cherry" (I carry more CRAP with that ball!!!). I have never left back to back 8 pins before UNTIL; one Friday night while "pot bowling", I left "3 in a row"... I could NOT believe it (I screamed after the 3rd one). Throw what works; and buy what you want...........

Take care,   Jeff

THANKS for everyones input...
