Here's a dumb one!
« on: February 04, 2005, 04:41:55 PM »
I had not been looking for dry lane balls at all.

Now I live in dry lane or lightly applied conditioner city.

I had seen the XL but had ignored the intro of the XXXL and XXL.

I have now read some reviews and got interested in the plastic XXXL and the pearl urethane XXL.

When was the XXL discontinued?  Too strong?

Lucky, the black urethane messenger is as good a urethane ball as any.  Although, drill appropriately for dry as this ball can be strong with a lot of flare.  Also, I haven't thrown a trooper, but I would seriously look at it for dry also.  I wouldn't think you would fall for the LANE 1 hype.  Your right, thats a dumb one.

lanes are dry enough that the black is way too early.

Need pearl.

Dumb thing is I missed XXL intro and discontinue.

When discontinued?

lane 1 produces a pretty good bowling ball... why do you consider it 'hype' when he is interested in a lane 1 ball? every lane 1 i have owned was a good, well-behaved ball when drilled appropriately.

luckylefty, i have no clueabout the discontinuation. it was done a while back, though, well before the Golden Nugget.

i don't care who makes it, how much it costs, or how sexy the ball looks. can i carry the 7 and level the deck with a $60 ball?

Donsvo, that can be said about any ball, from any company for half the money. We all fall into the ball hype or we wouldn't have more than one ball.  Personally, I find that it is not the ball or in most cases not even the bowler that determines high scores,  it's the Lane Man.  I don't want to start one of those Lane 1 arguments, I just couldn't resist myself trying to make a joke using Lucky's title, knowing he didn't mean it that way.

Best games, best series bowled with Lane 1...and I've only the two out of a ten ball arsenal.

Yea, there's hype...and there's a reason for it.

i would have to say that out of all of those i would say XXL would be ur best bet. however, i would recommend the Bullet if you want something that is more for the drier conditions.

XL is more of a medium/light ball
XXL a lil strong/snappy to be considered a true dry lanes ball, maybe light if there is long oil, but short and ur not gonna be too happy
XXXL is really just a glorified spare ball...i wouldnt want to have to use this when the money is on the line
Bullet is very smooth and will give a nice arc which is ez to control on dry. when its dirt dry it has enough to play a swing and still hit and finish. mine is drilled label and works well. i also use it for right side spares, so it is versitle in that it can be used for spares/strikes

I bought my xxl in 7/04, I believe it was discontinued in 6/04.  The two balls I use most are my xxxl's - one sanded to 1000 and the other to 2000.  My lanes have a reputation for leaving 10 pins, i do not have this problem playing the dry with my xxxl's.

LL, you might look at the Buzzsaw Bullet.  Low flare, two piece pearl.  More ball than the XXXL, don't have the XL to compare it with, but it just might be what you want.

LL, talk to Doug Sterner about your Lane 1 needs. If anyone can help you, whether it be finding a ball, information, drilling advisement, etc, Doug is the person to talk to.

What's the reason behind the hype? Because it's a good ball? Because they cost more? What?

Well, gee, I guess it's because it's a good ball.

I take you've had a bad experience with a Lane 1 ball?

Maybe it's me. But when one ball company charges a premium price, it better be something special. So, when I tried the U pearl and solid, they blew chucks. Didn't fit my game at all and I don't think I have anything special going on with my game. Now, my BCB is a great ball!!
--------------------
Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

even though you may pay a premium price (although if you are paying over $200 with drilled with the works you are getting robbed blind), they tend to "hold" their value better than any other ball available.  Single drills routinely sell for $75 to $100 all day long.  I sold a black/c a while back for $115...  makes them a little less expensive in the "big" picture.  Another upside is that you don't have to worry about Lane#1 releasing 28 new balls as soon as you buy your current new ball, thus making yours obsolete.  Also for most, they just seem to roll very well.

Got the XXL.

According to one poster that MIGHT be a fit as shot is LONG and thin volume!

Funny for a long time I've had a blue pearl hammer(pearl urethane) and never got around to drill it then I saw this.

We'll see!

Thanks for input!
