Original Supernova.. decent ball or not?
« on: February 21, 2008, 05:14:40 AM »
I have one of these due 15 NIB for delivery on Friday and was wondering if anyone had any good or bad comments about this ball. I know its a particle coverstock but thats about it..

Any comments such as what lane conditions this ball is best suited for would be appreciated..

Not sure if I want to drill it up or sell it..

my friend has one, pin down type of layout and this ball is very smooth and has a very hard arch to the pocket with this layout. He threw it on the chameleon last week and shot pretty good with it and when I throw it on a 40' THS with about 4-5 games on it I have to play pretty deep. Its a strong ball and easy to control.

I had to take it down to 600 to use it on medium-heavy otherwise it was a light medium oil at best. Ball went really long and was very smooth off the dry, not a bad ball for over/under lanes.

I was able do use it OOB on medium THS conditions, but I had to rough it up (about 600 grit) to use it on a heavy THS. Now that I have the Buzzbomb, I have taken the Supernova back up to OOB, and will keep using it for medium. I like the reaction though...revs up nicely in the mids and makes a strong move on the backend. Not out of control, but strong.

i love mine, but i will warn you that it is pretty drill sensitive. mine has the MB a little too far out on my drill, and my original eraser outhooks it. but, i have seen some with a correct, strong layout-great midlane, and a powerful arc in the back. likes medium and medium heavy, but mine has been relegated to only medium due to the drill. great hit and carry also, and very good for control off the dry. hope this helps and best of luck.

Excellent description. This is what my experience has been with the Supernova.

I got the best look from mine at 500 abralon. Then it could handle a fair amount of oil. It was drilled pin over and right of ring, cg kicked right slightly, weight hole.

I like the ball.  I have been having a little bit of thumb fit issues with it right now, but I think it was a underestimated ball.  The first few throws were nothing special, but then it just started rolling really good.  I was practicing with my proshop guy and he made the comment about how it just kept rolling.

The only thing I don't really like about it is the thin coverstock.  but, that is how a lot of new balls are.

Threw it last night in the county tournament, oiled gutter to gutter. I normally play this ball around 15 out to 10 on a THS in the same house.

I played it straight up the 8 board and it had a smooth, controllable arc into the pocket. I was the only person playing outside, heh. I tend to dump balls wide right when I try to swing a lane, which on these conditions results in gutter balls, so I went down and in and was pleased with the control and hitting power. All of my 10 pin leaves were flush ringers; no weak hits.
