cracked THS
« on: May 13, 2009, 10:20:28 AM »
I just had a few question figured someone here should be able to help.  I have a retro THS that is less than a year old, and I noticed it was cracked pretty bad.  first of all is this under warranty?  Do I need to take it back to the pro shop?  and if they do replace it do I have to get another Retro THS?

yes take it back to the pro shop, and if they give you any flack about a replacement ball, then come back and re post

L1 stands behind their stuff, but try to take care of it through your pro shop you bought it at first

Take it to your proshop and have them call Lane1, and I will be willing to bet money that it will be taken care of in about 1 to 11/2 seconds,my Buzzbomb was!!  Extra fast, hassle free, customer service that would be hard to beat!

I have a buzzbomb that cracked by the pin and they would not cover it. There warranty only goes one year and if finger holes are drilled near the pin the they won't cover that either.

My ball was over a year even though I had less than thirty games on it and my fingers holes were close to pin but the crack did not get close to the holes. I have owned over 50 balls and this was the first one to every have a crack. So I threw the ball away and be assured that there will NEVER be another Lane #1 ball in my arsenal.

Let us know what happens with yours.

Just FYI -- I don't know of ANY company that will cover finger holes drilled close to the pin. All companies warn against that and for good reason. If you want to drill close to the pin, you do so at your own risk.

Even before I was drilling for myself, my drillers would warn me against it if the layout we settled on got close to the pin. Most of the time, I'd still green-light it and it would work out, but occasionally it would burn me. I've got a Lane #1 ball, a couple of Ebonite balls, an old AMF and a Storm ball that are cracked like that. None of them can go back for warranty work -- and that's fine, because I knew the risks and did it anyway.

Don't blame the company when you or your driller does something that is expressly warned against. If you picked that layout and did it yourself and/or gave your driller permission to, it's your fault. If your driller did it without your knowledge or approval, it's his fault.
