Yeah you know, the purple one. I picked one up used and had it plugged and redrilled in almost the same spot.
Ball has a 1" pin, which I was worried about at first because I have never had a pin that short in any of my bowling balls. Anyway, went with the label layout that was on the ball before I got it, with the pin even with the ring finger.
I also played with my thumb pitches a little for the first time on this ball. I went from 3/16 palm to 1/8 away, and moved from 5/16 reverse to 1/4 reverse. No I haven't taken the Magic Carpet ride to forward thumbpitch yet (sorry, Ron) but I am planning on continuing to move my pitch forward little by little.
The result? This ball is a MONSTER. It picked up a roll fairly early because of the short pin. It recovered VERY nicely even with my higher speed, and had plenty of energy left for the backend. This is my first experience with this particular core, and I have to say I am impressed. I could even tell a difference in the sound when the ball hit the pocket vs. any of my other balls. I do think the pitch adjustment helped me stay under the ball a tad longer and helped me create a few more revs. I had been having trouble dropping the ball and coming around the side too quickly; the new pitch adjustments solved those problems.
I have never measured my ball speed but I am guessing I am in the range of 18-19 mph. I was afraid that this particle pearl ball would need some dry boards to work very well, but I was throwing on a fresh house shot and had NO trouble bringing it back. In fact, if anything I had trouble keeping the ball from going through the nose. I love it when I can increase my speed and not lose recovery!
This ball is staying in the bag for the forseeable future. It'll work nicely as a complement to my Solid Uranium and Dirty Bomb Pearl for now. Might even replace the Solid as the first ball out of my bag!
