Help me drill my first lane#1
« on: March 25, 2005, 10:12:22 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just got a Dirty Bomb Hybrid. 15.04, 3 ozs. top weight and 2-3 pin. Now I want this ball to be able to open up the lanes and play inside. I track by the thumb 1/4 inch. High tracker. I have posted a link to my current arsenal. This is the first Lane#1 that I have bought so give me you best drilling suggestion and see if you can transform me. I want the drillings for opening up the lane on medium to heavy. Not talking soap oil either rarely ever see that. My PAP is 4 1/2 over and 1/2 up. Thanks, Derek

Here is my current arsenal link

Big oil ball now TNT best backend.
Least Fear Factor with pin under ring.

I would go with the pin under the bridge and kick the Cg out an inch to 1 1/2". =:^D

If you track high, I would be careful drilling pin under ring.. you might track right over the thumb hole.. I know when I tried that drilling, thats what happened to me..

I am a high tracker and have drilled several buzzsaws and I always use pin above and or to the right of the ring and have never had any issues and always been satisfied with the roll and carry..

By the way, you are gonna love the Dirty Bomb Hybrid.. Its a great ball..

I track high also I am going to agree for the most part with T-god except place the pin above your ring and kick cg out one inch thats how mine is drilled and it gives me the reaction your looking for.  Almost all my balls ar pin above I typically always request 3to4 pins if I want to go under i get a 2to3.

Measured the pin distance last night and it comes out to 2 3/8.  What kind of reaction will I get if I put the pin under the bridge and the cg out an 1inch.  I do have a storm fear factor that I put the pin under rf and the cg I actually put about 1/2 left and under the thumb.  Kind of like a 1:30.  Wanted a mello reaction and that is what I got but I do clip the thumb hole.  I did have a big block that I put the pin under ring and the cg straight down and I did not hit the thumb then.  Please help me out so I can drill my virgin Hybrid and first Lane 1 ball.  Thanks for all the input you have given me already.  Derek

I wouldn't put the pin over the fingers with only a 2 3/8" out pin. This drilling will make the ball go too long on med to heavy oil, in my opinion.

Place your weight hole in a straight line from the center of your grip, thru the CG, extending downward about 6". I don't think you'll have a problem clipping your thumb hole. =:^D

What is the ball speed and rev rate?  If you are avg in both, I would go with the pin at 3 or 3:30 position to the ring, with the CG kicked out about an 1" or so.   I am a high tracker with above avg. revs and speed, and I would go with the pin below the ring; say a 3 1/2 x 3, whith the pin in the 4 or 5 o'clock position.   If you e-mail Doug Sterner at dougsproshop@aol.com he would answer your questions.
