Pink Panther
« on: October 10, 2010, 02:12:02 PM »
While this is not a full on review of the ball I can give my initial impressions.

The Pink Panther is quite the ball. I drilled mine up 40 x 5-1/2 x 45. Due to the low starting top wt (2 oz) and the long pin (4") I didn''t need a weighthole. Statics ended up being 7/8 side, 1/8 finger and 1 oz bottom.

Out of the box this ball is just flat out too much ball for a house condition. I have tried it on both wood (top hat pattern, 55 units in the center tapering to 15 at 10 and then dropping significantly outside that) and on synthetics (similar top hat pattern with  obviously less oil in the center due to them being synthetics but the outsides are just as dry.)

The ball got through the heads well enough on both shots but the midlane read and subsequent backend were just incredible. Normally Lane 1 balls have done one or the other...either they read the midlane well (Big Curve, Uranium solid, G Force Nebula, BuzzBomb) or they have big backends (G Force Evolution, SuperNova XP, Curve, Blue Death, Time Bomb) but this ball is a little of both. The midlane is not as strong as the Big Curve and the backend is not like the Time Bomb but overall this ball is VERY impressive.

I did not stick with the ball through practice since my teams needed me to put up some decent numbers. I am going to practice some more with Pinky this week and will most likely get out the 4000 grit Abralons and Secret Sauce to get the ball down the lane further before it starts up.

More to follow.

not bashing, but why is this ball so expensive when the core is very old, It's not like they incurred a lot of research and development costs.

Funny, as this is what I said about the PP about a week to 10 days ago and all of the Buzz kingdom jumped down my throat, saying as how even and arcing the PP was. I never said it was snappy, just that it had a big, strong sharp backend, as Doug said it did.

 JEFF,

Have you lost your mind? You know your not allowed to make ANY claims on Lane#1 ball reaction unless you're one of the annointed ones.

You have to wait until one of THEM sees the reaction, then you can claim that you have seen it as well.

GEEZ Jeff, how many times we gotta tell you?

(And DON'T bash me. This is done in mirth, as I want one of the "pinkies" as well. Thought I might get one for Christmas. Lord KNOWS I dropped enough hints.)

Jug: As one of the "annoited ones", may you find a pinkie in your Christmas stocking later tonight. It's a ball that even Lane#1 haters would love. And when you do get your pinkie, maybe you can describe the difference between 'snappy'  and 'big strong sharp backend'.

Inquiring minds want to know!

Merry Christmas

Anthony with Lane #1 called me at the bowling center Thursday and I expressed inerest call of the weightblock being the big diamond with low rg and 900 Global coverstock! I could can less about the color, after all I loved the Visionary DC Tour with their magenta/pink color! I'm not afraid of my man card being pulled for using a pink ball, especially if it performs as described! My a Pink Panther with be my New Year present to myself!!!!

With all of that said I have put the ball on the shelf at this point. The lanes I bowl on are so dry on the outsides and the oil patterns are far too short to make effective use of this ball with my preferred game.

Pin over the bridge with the CG out and no weighthole is just too strong off the spot. When I have to start forcing the ball downlane I lose my accuracy and everything goes south at that point.

I have done 2000, 3000, 4000 all with and without polish and I just cannot get the ball to do what I want it to. I am going to try a skinny deep hole on the PAP to attempt to smooth out the breakpoint but time will tell.

With the strength of this ball on the backend I would suggest pin down drillings or pins closer to PAP to smooth the ball out some.

As soon as my fluorescent pink plug tint arrives I am going to plug and redrill the ball with 1 of 2 layouts....either 70 x 2 x 40 (similar to my Tsunami) or 40 x 5-1/2 x 60 (similar to my Tropical Heat Hybrid). Just need to figure out what exactly I want.

More later...

My initial impression of this ball was done on lanes that had been oiled with a different oil than we are currently using. My home house normally uses Prodigy while the lane man was experimenting with Navigate at that point when I threw the Pink for the first time. This is the difference in what I saw then and what i see now. The Navigate oil gave me more length than the Prodigy and made the ball look really good.

The Prodigy we are using now is doing some very interesting things on the lanes when the pattern starts to breakdown and the oil carry down the lanes.

I have gone to some equipment that is more predictable and even-reacting in an effort to help my team score some points. I will try Pinky again when I get some practice time.
