800 with a light polish will probably give you the factory finish or close to it.
I would start with a 1000 grit wet sand, which will dull the surface and give you a little smoother break and pick up the roll slightly earlier in the oil.
If that is not enough, try a 600-800 grit wet sand, and maybe an application of Neo-Tack hook it to soften the cover.
Personally, I feel you will get the best results from either an 800 grit or 1000 grit wetsand, with no polish.
The factory finish of the BCB is roughly 800 grit paper with a very light buff.
