Price of a Black Cherry Bomb
« on: September 06, 2003, 04:03:08 AM »
The pro shop I go to has a Black Cherry Bomb for $250.00 plus tax, drilled and inserts. I know I can find it cheaper here or on line, but after shipping and drilling the price is only $25.00 or $30.00 more from the pro shop. What would you do? Would you wait a week or so for the ball to be shipped and save money, or buy it now?

if my pro is good. I would pay the extra.

20 to 30 is nothing if you get free surface asdjustments. most charge $5 or more for spinner work.

You can save more than $25 on line. Contact Doug Sterner and Drill Wizzard for a quote. Then again, like Omega says, if your driller is good......In my case, mine isn't so I would be tempted to order on line, and nothing wrong with that, but check with others for references to who ever you might chose on line.

I actually looked into the price at my pro shop after talking to drillwizard.  I can get mine for $225.  I am not sure buying online for that ball is really worth it.

Had a ball drilled yesterday, asked how much for the cherry bomb or black cherry bomb.  $199 drilled, can anyone beat this price.

King,

where did you get this ball for $195 drilled? Also, did that price include shipping? I went to the link you posted and the ball itself was $179, undrilled and not shipped.

If you don't want to post the name of the place here, send me a private message.

drillwizard,

Are you saying you can beat $195 drilled with grips and slug and shipped for the BCB?

If so, let me know..

Yeah I would say it depends on the relationship you have with your proshop.

example,

I can go into the shop and get stuff done cheap even balls that I get from the net.  he will also let me use some of the equipment.  Because of this I will
throw a little kick back to him.  I know I can get a ball cheaper somewhere else, but if he has the ball in stock at the time I will buy from him.

King, where did you get your Black Cherry Bomb for $195 shipped and free drilling? Is this a joke? I've priced a couple of places, and the cheapest I've been quoted is $210 shipped and includes drilling.

I thought the Black Cherry was selling for 169 and if your out of state, no taxes.  40 dollars to drill is a fair price, but I know there are many variances of ball drilling prices.  I got mine from Doug for 169 and 32 dollars to drill including vacu grips and an Exacacator thumb slug.  I love the ball.  Its carry is tremendous and its one of the most readable bowling balls I ever thrown second to the Super Carbide. This price isn't much more then you pay for a premium Ebonite, Storm, Brunswick or Columbia ball.

Nic, that's a total of $201. That's a good price with grips and all. He quoted me $210 without the grips.

ringing10, see if this works for you.  If you truly trust your pro shop driller, explain to him that you have the opportunity to have one of these balls punched out for considerably less than you've been quoted through him.  For the local service, warranty assistance when needed, and coverstock tweakings, the additional monies you spend locally will be long sice forgotten the first time he's needed.  Be truthful with him and give him a shot at earning your business.  Instruct him that if things go well with the new ball, that you'll do you best to send him as many referrals as you can.  If he/she simply won't be flexible enough to earn your business, then Doug Sterner, drillwizard, or even yours truly will be happy to give it a shot.  My time isn't worth Gold, and you may live in the land of the free, but even I won't do something for nothing.

Thanks for the input guys, and while I can see where free drilling or buying stuff at cost is preferable, I don't have that luxury. I've been going to my pro shop for a couple years and trust him completely but his prices are a little high. After adding taxes the ball will cost over $270.00. I'm in California and the taxes are over 8%. I've been waiting to find one used, but no one seems to want to let one go. Hint, hint. I've checked Doug's website and his price is $179.00 plus $18.00 to ship and after I get it drilled the price is about $240.00. I don't see the savings. I haven't contacted Doug so I don't know what he would charge for drilling, but I would have to ship him a ball to copy and that would negate any savings I might get. Thanks again.

Ring, you're probably looking at $220 max for everything from Doug. Message him and see.
