What Happened to Cranberry Topic?
« on: January 01, 2004, 09:51:10 PM »
Right before Christmas, there was a topic asking why the Cranberry had so few reviews. A few posters who actually own the ball gave speculations, including myself.

One of the insights was that the ball is a bad match of cover-to-core, so the ball might be lagging in popularity. Maybe more was said after the first few days, but I can't see because the topic is gone!

What happened here? I'm hoping that the thread was not removed because someone from Lane#1 was offended at bad press for the Cranberry. Please, someone tell me that isn't the case. There is nothing more heinous that the censorship of valid ideas. If the Lane#1 board has become a place where only 'diamond worship' is acceptable, please let us know.

Steven,

I just added a comment to a thread entitled, "Drilling a Cranberry". That should bring it to the top. See if that was the one in which you are interested.

I think they are right. Risking the wrath of T-God, I fearlessly say, "the PK 18 is too strong a cover for that core", only because ususally bowlers seem to prefer weaker covers with more powerful cores. I prefer covers that match up well with cores, more like Dyno-Thane is doing now. Some other manufacturers do it with certain ball lines (Columbia's Messenger line, Storm's Eraser line, Brunswick's Monster line, Ebonite's V2 line.) DT seems to do it with all their balls designed by Phil C.

charlest: Thanks for doing some research, but "Drilling a Cranberry" is not the thread. The topic I was referring to was specifically targeted to the absence of Cranberry reviews.

Before continuing, I want to emphasize that I'm not a Lane#1 basher. The XXXL was my first Buzzsaw, and I'm very pleased. While I don't own a SCB, I've  recommended the ball to several folks and I should get the commission for 3 sales.

However, the Cranberry is a simply a terrible core to cover match, and I believe that's why you see so few reviews. Bowlers hate to admit they made a mistake, so most will remain silent before admitting they bought a turd. A ball with a good core-to-cover match should be useful on some range of conditions regardless of drill pattern. That's the ultimate test for any ball. When we get into exotic discussions that conclude a ball can be drilled with only a few patterns to be useful, you can't help but sniff trouble.

Anyway, the point of my post was not to further analyze the Cranberry, but to ask why the topic was gone. Again, if there is an unwritten rule that only good things can be said about Lane#1 equipment, the folks responsible should be up front and say it.

I remember that topic.  Strange that it has disappeared.  Who was the original poster?

I think most people have the wrong lane conditions for the cranberry, its all about matching up to the shot, From what i see and read on here most people bowl on desert conditions, Powerkoil 18 requires a good amount of oil in the heads and mid lane, i have seen this ball on a fresh shot here in the northeast where they use oil with weak backends and this ball is close to what the pearl cherry was and is pretty devastating on the backend with a 4x4 layout, so my assesment is that there is probably not a lot of people with the cranberry because it is quite close to the blueberry and a lot of people already have one of these and would find quite an overlap with the cranberry, My 2 cents, Retro

Steven,
I remember that post as well and it certainly does appear to be gone! I am a lane #1 supporter but I would be REALLY disappointed if there is any connection to the missing post and Lane #1's influence upon it.  I don't remember who the original poster was but I hope that they read this thread and let us know whazzup.
