Drrev

The XP has a much stronger cover. Not sure there really is a perfect replacement other than another Viper. What weight do you throw??

I know I have a 14lb and possibly a 15 lb as well.

Beans,

What about an H20?
Pretty mild ball, no?

I'm sure the Viper was stronger than a Bullet, but I'm not sure by how much.

How about the THS?

I just got my replacement THS from Buddies pro shop and it fit perfect.  Took it to the lanes today to practice and compare it to the Neptune drilled very similar.  The control and carry of the THS was outstanding.  I averaged 214 this summer with the THS on a short oil lane condition.  Today I just moved right to play down the dry and play against the oil line and the ball was very predictable and did not jump off the break point.  I was trying to see which ball to use for drier lanes or shorter oil.  The Neptune was longer and stronger off the break point but totally skids in oil, as expected.  The THS read the lane a little sooner, smoother off the break point and very consistant.

Barry,

I think, if as Beans said, the XP is stronger than the Pearl Viper, the THS is stronger and earlier than the XP.

Also The THS Is a LOT stronger than the Neptune. Beware those house blended oil patterns, many people can use almost anything on them. Under normal circumstances, the Neptune is for a lot drier patterns than the THS is. In general, the THS is for true medium oil while the Neptune is for light oil.

Thanks for the replies. I already own a THS and am very happy with it.I was looking for something weaker for drier conditions.

Had the Viper and I have a weak drilled XP drilled by Beans at the Nationals with the pin above the middle finger and the cg middle span putting the mb right of thumb and the XP is much more angular then the THS, so much so, I put the XP up now that I got the replacement THS because the XP drove so hard that it put me into too much trouble.  The THS is a lot smoother and will handle the light oil/short oil.  Maybe not dry lanes I agree.  I also tried the HRG and did not care for that ball at all.  So I have a Hornet, Neptune, THS and Cherry Vibe that I'm working with for medium/light to light oil.  I have the XXXL and hope I don't need to carry it to league this year.

The THS will cover a condition with more oil then the Neptune and is drilled the same as the Neptune but the Neptune is 1000 polished and the THS is in box.

I read that Car191 already has a THS and I agree that if he wants a drier condition ball, other then the XXXL or Starburst, I would look at the Link, Hornet, Razyr.  There are many other dry lane bowling balls, so I guess he wil have to do some research and see which company has a light/dry lane condition ball that will work for his game.

Went out for first night of league tonight and the house proshop had a clearance sale on to get rid of old stock.Stuck my head in the door and what do I see but a NIB Viper on the shelf.I asked what the price was and he told me $50 with grips and a slug.Needless to say I bought it on the spot and am a happy camper. Thanks guys for all your suggestions.
