Response from Ritchie (Buzzbomb)
« on: March 05, 2008, 11:53:29 AM »
Just added.

Ritchie mentioned that there was noting wrong with the drilling of the ball other then there was too much bottom and thumb weight.  he will have the balance hole plugged and moved to adjust the bottom weight and send me the ball back to test along with a new Buzzbomb to drill differently.

Lane 1 just received my Buzzbomb that I sent them.  After weighing the ball for static weights, he said the ball had some thumb weight and 3/4 bottom weight.  Ritchie believes the 3/4 ounce of bottom weight is killing the ball's potential to hook.  He is going to fill the balance hole that was already drilled into the ball and drill a balance hole that will give it some top weight and hopefully get rid of the thumb weight.

Lane 1 (Ritchie) is also going to send me a nw Buzzbomb along with the old Buzzbomb to try a different drilling, no charge.  He just wants me to post what I find out after I throw the old Buzzbomb with the different static weights.

Called Lane 1, Craig answered on the second ring.  Transferred me to Ritchie nd I didn't even wait 5 seconds before Ritchie picked up the phone.

I always knew the customer service at Lane 1 was outstanding.  Thats why I was surprised with the problem with the email.

I hope this works, though I know there has been a lot of conversations about static weights.

That's kick butt, I don't care what any one says!!!  That's a stand up move, and another reason I am a lane #1 fan.  I don't always match up with the balls, but I have to give props to the customer service.  These people want to put their balls in your hands and make you happy too.  HAHA I couldn't resist!!!!

I don't want to talk about CG.  But Ritchie mentioned that he wanted me to write about the change in static weights (moving the balance hole from bottom to top weight without re-drilling the ball by moving the balance hole.  Ritchie would like me to post my experience with the Buzzbomb after I receive and throw the ball with the change in static weights from moving the balance hole.

A few years back I had a Blueberry crack.  Talked to Ritchie and they no longer manufactured the Blueberry so he sent me a Carbide Plus.  So this customer service has been going on for years.  Not something that he started doing.  And I talked to Ritchie back then also.

I just returned from Branson MO and was unable to keep up with these posts, so not to jump on the band wagon.

I won't get the bowling balls until at least next Friday and I will post after I throw the ball a couple of days.

I had a problem with my Supernova going to far and leaving alot of 8 and 9 pins.So I brought it to a different pro shop and had Vern check the ball and found that the ball had to much thumb weight causing it to go long.So when I was reading your past that is what came to mind.I know Richie and the rest of the staff at Lane 1 and they are a top notch bunch of guys.I know that alot of people out there don't like lane 1 and bash them to all ends of the globe but I want to know if thier favorite ball company treats you like Lane 1 does to thier Family of bowlers

OK. I'm no expert. But I can't see how 3/4 oz static weight on a ball can kill it. If you remove the thumb weight, does the ball sudden spring to life?

Enlighten me..

ON EDIT:
Great service..no question

Good customer service, bad information.  Static weights don't matter.  I broke this down somewhere else.  A 15lb bowling ball weighs 240 ounces.  Cut into halves, that's 120 ounces.  Just moving an ounce from one side of the ball to the other has less than a 1% influence on the weight on that side of the ball.  That's a 20 year old theory.  Drilling holes all over the place will have more of an effect than the weight.  Watch the ball still do nothing.

Yes, it is math.  And yes it's correct.  Again, static weights don't matter.  Ritchie is not God, and yes he's done something awesome with that company.  On this matter though, you're wrong, and he's wrong, and spreading this kind of misinformation is only contributing to wrong ideas and ignorant pro shop practices.  3/4ths of an ounce on a plastic ball wouldn't matter, let alone a reactive ball.  Static weights don't matter any more than cg placement.  You can change the cg, and matter of fact every time you drill a ball you move the cg unless you specifically drill it to leave it where it is.  I used to think static weights mattered too, but I was wrong, misinformed, ignorant, whatever you want to call it.  But now I know what's really going on, and I can't believe I didn't give it more thought before, because it doesn't make sense even without bringing math into it.

We know the math.. its been told 3429859x over.
Sometimes common sense just isn't right!!!!!!

Bad information from Richie.. he made a bowling ball company work for over 10 years with a staff of no more than 10 people. And he has a sht-ton of customers and people who buy his equipment. No other compaany has been able to do what he has done!

Thats like saying God gave us bad information at the last supper.

Does the placement of a balance hole make a difference?  Big or small.  If you put a balance hole on your PAP with most bowling balls, does it tame the reaction (I think this is opposite for the T-Road)?  If this tames a ball, does the placement of the balance hole changing the thumb weight of 3/4 of an ounce with a small deep balance hole make a difference?  Big or small difference?

Ritchie said he is plugging the balance hole and moving the balance hole without any changes to the ball and said it will make a significant difference to the ball reaction.  I can only wait and throw the ball when I get it next week.  I believe in Lane 1 and Ritchie's knowledge and hope it works out.  I also know that every ball doesn't work for every bowler.  So again, we'll see.

I've said what's going on.  And the part that doesn't make sense is why somebody thinks 3/4ths of an ounce moved from one side of a 240 ounce bowling ball to the other side actually makes a difference.

Yeah, Nicanor, it's weighthole placement that does it.  They should stop calling it a weighthole and call it something else, because removing the weight isn't the deal.  My pro shop guy could explain it better than I could though, I might send him over here or have him pm you.
