Title: Sanding a Black Cherry?
Post by: Shifter on October 30, 2003, 08:53:31 PM
I have a Black Cherry carbide/r bomb...

I'm having some trouble in my local house, with the ball going just a bit long......I'm thinking of sanding it a bit to cut some of the length....

I have a ball spinner, but have limited its use so far to just cleaning, and using a bit of scotch brite on my particle balls...

any advice?

It's more or less plain resin, a variation of PK 18, so use a nylon pad on it. I'd guess a grey one (it's around 1000 grit) should do fine; use just enough pressure to take most of the shine off, but not enough to truly dull the whole ball. Better just a little at a time than to go past the proper point for what you need. Take the pad to bowling practice so you can haze it a little more, if needs be, assuming you're practicing on a condition similar to what you're bowling on.
