Savoia Videos
« on: December 27, 2006, 01:57:19 PM »
No disrespect intended here.  The time and effort put into making the vids is appreciated.  However, could they show someone who has actually MADE a living bowling?  Or at least someone bowling on a shot that Ray Charles couldn't hit?  I personally haven't seen bumpers like that in 5 or 6 years.  Again, no disrespect intended here.  Would be nice to maybe see it lefty and righty.  No, I am not Lane#1 bashing.  Hell, I just bought a Carbide+ and Cobalt Solid from Warren to go with the Silver Diamond and the Tsunami I already have.  Just my opinion for what it's worth.  *SIGH*  Ok....let the bashing begin!

could't agree with you more...he has like a 10-15 board swish zone in all those videos.  I'd like to see some realistic stuff too.

I have to agree with Darren and everyone knows I'm not a basher. Its bumper bowling at its best and really does't show the true potential of the ball.

Yeah something more than a THS. I would like to see it on something like the Chamaleon pattern or Cheetah. Something that shows the balls potential.

I don't think the condition is really as big of an issue as to who is throwing the bowling balls.  If he wasn't spraying the ball all over the lane, we would have no idea as to whether the shot was easy or difficult.  I really don't have a problem with companies filming on easier conditions, it's what most of us including myself bowl on.  It also makes sense for marketing purposes to show him striking a lot.  Although I know most people on this site would rather see the shots he misses on also, but not everyone in the bowling community has the same view of bowling balls as most do on this site. Bash me if you must, but I am just being honest.

Nothing to bash Don.  I understand the marketing thing totally.  My own personal wish is to see the balls react on a shot where 5 and out is dead OB or where the middle is toast.  They can still show him striking...just not by bouncing it off the bumpers ALL the time.

Lol, I've said this before too, but I got attacked!  But honestly, yeah, that's just it.  The shot he's on is WIDE open, and I don't know how he gets stuff to roll up with the way he throws the ball.

I don't know.... I think about 75% of the people that buy Lane#1 bowl
more like Mike than a PBA professional. And, on a THS.

But, it might be nice to see anyway.

I actually disagree ... lets say he bowls on a very heavy oil and the ball hooks 3-5 boards .. what does that tell me ??  nothing .. I wouldn't know how much the ball will hook on less oil .. but the other way around, I can make a good judgement based on the less oil movement.

I checked big-B site .. they have a video of 1 frame to show the ball .. now tell me that tells you anything at all

the way Mike does the videos shows most of the ball potential and then I can make my own judgement if I intend to use the ball on different condition

Willynhook -- I think you're one of the few who get it:

Frankly, I can care less what a "real" PBA Professional on a "real" condition makes a ball do. I'm not afraid to admit that I'm not a professional, so their demonstrations have little relevance to what I want to see from a ball.

I've personally found Mike's Videos very helpful in evaluating what a given Lane#1 ball does on the conditions I generally see. In almost every case where I've bought a Lane#1 based on his videos, the ball works for me pretty much as I viewed it, except that I don't get a strike every time.

THS or not, seeing details on how he drills a given ball, a description of the condition he's throwing it on, and watching it being thrown from different angles is all that should matter to most of us here.

Geez, give the man a break. It's better video information than you get from any of the other manufacturer sites.
