Savoia Videos
« on: December 27, 2006, 01:57:19 PM »
No disrespect intended here.  The time and effort put into making the vids is appreciated.  However, could they show someone who has actually MADE a living bowling?  Or at least someone bowling on a shot that Ray Charles couldn't hit?  I personally haven't seen bumpers like that in 5 or 6 years.  Again, no disrespect intended here.  Would be nice to maybe see it lefty and righty.  No, I am not Lane#1 bashing.  Hell, I just bought a Carbide+ and Cobalt Solid from Warren to go with the Silver Diamond and the Tsunami I already have.  Just my opinion for what it's worth.  *SIGH*  Ok....let the bashing begin!

What gets me most is that... watch all of the videos. It seems like all of the balls he uses in the videos use the same line and have the same reaction... which cannot be true. Watch the Solid Uranium video versus the Pearl Cobalt or the Carbide+ or even the HRG... not that much difference but try those two balls using the same line on the shot you play on the lanes you play... night and day. And yes, I have Lane #1 in my bag.

well i have to agree with that, he throws pretty much the same line with different balls and have the pretty much the same rotation. Something i like little bit more about big B's videos is that they actually show u for instance this ball is good for this line and if u try another ball the same line it wont do the job.

Actually, house shots have the ability to make different balls look very similar.  I'm able to play within 5 boards using a monster bruiser with an early rolling layout sanded to 1000 versus my Red Pin zone classic which I drilled the guts out of (PSA left of thumb, in very weak position).  Ball comparison alone says that the rpzc should be several arrows weaker than the bruiser, which on difficult conditions it is.  But house shots on the other hand...

And I agree with Dr. Joe.  Watching videos like the ones of Huryn are fun, but they honestly tell me nothing about the ball since I have probably half his rev rate.  Granted I throw different than Mike as well, but he's on the "mortal" level with me.

I think that's as much an effect of bowling on a house shot as it is the balls' characteristics.  How often do we hear "stand left throw right"?  Any ball, any line, just stand left and throw right.  They did a segment on the show a few weeks ago with a demonstration like that.

That would be the advantage of using a harder shot in the videos.  Not because we bowl on them, because we don't, but because a THS tends to make all balls react similarly.

I KNEW you guys would twist this around to make it sound like I was ripping Mike!  All I asked for was to see the ball NOT act like every other ball on a THS.  My THS has dead OB outside 5 so watching videos of Mike banking it from the twig tells me ZERO.  Now, while I am not a professional, nor do I necessarily bowl like one, I would still gain benefit from watching the ball off of someone's hand "cleaner".  Yes I know....before you bashers start...Mike is showing it on a variety of lines.  At the very least, show me a lefty throwing it.  Hell, I will take that!  If the ball is designed for heavy patterns..throw it on heavy patterns....if it is designed for lighter patterns....throw it on lighter patterns....etc.

Darren: You're a funny guy. You start off by making the statement "However, could they show someone who has actually MADE a living bowling?", and later say "would still gain benefit from watching the ball off of someone's hand cleaner". These statements are hardly a compliment to Mike, and directly (or indirectly) represent a backhanded swipe at his abilities.

Forgive me if I'm a little suspicious of your motives here. For a long time, you took delight in labeling Lane#1 equipment 'boat anchors', and regularly bashed the product. If I remember, it got to the point where you were reprimanded by the board admins for not letting up. And now you've suddenly found Lane#1 religion to the point where you own a Carbide+, Cobalt Solid, Silver Diamond and the Tsunami?

To the point (I think) you're trying to make, we'd all like a full length video on every ball from the right side and the left side, on PBA/Sport and THS, by professionals and hacks, and on and on.

But the bottom line is that we're not getting that from any manufacturer, and frankly it's not necessary for equipment evaluation. In the case of Lane#1, Mike throws the ball better than 95% of the bowlers who grace these boards. He goes to painstaking detail to show ball preparation and condition he's throwing on. And anyone who says all the balls look the same in these videos really isn't paying attention. For example, anyone who watches the Golden Nugget, Solid Uranium and Enriched Uranium videos and sees the same thing, it's time to get glasses or get bowling lessons.

As far as the following:

quote:
At the very least, show me a lefty throwing it. Hell, I will take that!

If that what it takes for you to be satisfied, you have very low expectations.

Ahhh...my old friend Steven.  Personally, I could care less as to what your suspicions are or are not.  I STILL think, to this DAY, Lane#1 stuff is over-priced.  However, what I throw from Lane#1 or anyone else is truly NONE of your concern.....but thanks for your comments just the same. BTW, who the hell are you to judge ANYONE's motives?  As to everything else, my opinion is what it is and it is all mine....not yours.  What's funny is I don't see you tearing into Warren or some of the others who echoed my sentiments....only me.  Therefore, it saddens me to see you allow personal issue sto guide yur comments.  I will lock this topic as it has once again....LIKE ALWAys..been hijacked by someone with a personal grudge against the poster.  How sad.
