Here we go yet again.
It's probably the standard Brunswick finish:
400 or 600 grit sanded, followed by a high gloss polish, not repeatable by customers.

??? why not repeatable ? And when was the last time someone asked about the Silver Diamonds finish?

Jeff: This is from Mr. Buzzsaw himself over at the Lane#1 forum when asked about NIB finishes. You've at least got to give the guy an A+ for honesty, and it makes rather amusing reading:

quote:
This is my least favorite question to answer. Brunswick is kind of in the dark ages when it comes to polishing bowling balls. They do not use multiple products that have grit associated with them. So, we have no grit associated with our NIB surfaces.

Now don't laugh when I tell you this, because this is true. Brunswick has 2 fat guys that polish their balls using a Lustre King compound and a buffing wheel.

After the balls get cut down from the lathe, they hold the ball to their gut and buff it once, or double buff it. This is the Gods honest truth.

So, to answer everyones questions on how to get our balls back to the NIB finish, that's how it's done. You can call Brunswick and verify this yourself.

What I would do to get close to NIB finish is to take the ball down to 600 grit. Then polish it using standard 3-M rubbing compound. This will shine the ball nicely, but not over polish it to where it skids too far.

I guess I need to go find a couple of fat guys to polish my balls.

I use to use #7 rubbing compound on all my brunswick equipment worked like a champ.

The last time? 1, 2, 3 weeks ago. It's the same for all Brunswick manufactured balls, solids and pearls, it seems. Too bad we don't have a search engine or a FAQ.

Well, this is my first Lane 1/ Brunswick ball, so until then I never payed much attention to 'finish' questions regarding these brands, because I didn't own one.  So now I know....sorry for asking such a stupid question.

Steven, thank you........

Jeff,
Send me your SD. I have a polishing wheel on my bench grinder.
I can always find another fat guy to make sure the finish is
"factory."

C'mon now, Jeff; you're sulking again. Chin up; Smile! It'll all look better in the morning. I assume you have 400 and 600 grit sandpaperor green nylon pads.

Here's where you can get Brunswick's own Factory finish polish:
http://www.bowlerschoice.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=Bowlerschoice&Product_Code=BBP&Category_Code=Cleaners+%26+Polish

At least it's where I got mine; it seems to shine up a ball very quickly and easily.

That email Steven posted is one I also remember. Bizarre situation.

It's a post I recall reading from the Lane 1 site, I had posted it a while back for other reasons...

Sorry to hijack the thread for a minute!

Jeff, don't feel attacked or put upon.
We all hate each other equally around here. ...

FYI most companies finish their ball in a very consistent manner; solids, resins, pearls. There are always exceptions, but the majority rules.

Look at Columbia's as an example. See
