Silver Diamond or XL
« on: October 26, 2003, 10:40:20 PM »
Looking for a buzzsaw  to be able to play down five board on a very light oiling pattern. My x-Factor drilled five and three quaters by five is great for two games and then it goes nuts. I was looking at the Silver or XL but am not sure which one pluse i know nothing about Lane 1 products. Need advice.

The XL is the better choice between the two.  The single nugget in the Silver's core will promote more flair, and a touch earlier roll.

I use the XL drilled 5x4 pin under the ring finger and it's silky smooth down the boards.  It's very even, predictable, and controllable throught the entire lane.  It still has some pop on the backend but nothing ridiculous to give you headaches.

The Silver can also be used that way, but you might have to flatten your wrist out.  It's better suited to open up lanes with fresh backends or medium lanes with minimal carrydown.

Alex,

I have had both, and I prefer the Silver.  Depending on your speed/revs, you can lay it out like mine 5 1/2 x 4 1/2, pin above the bridge, w/CG kicked right slightly.  Bear in mind I have above average speed and average to above average revs.  The XK is a great ball, and I am willing to bet that with that layout or similar, you can play the shot you want.  As always, you can polish or sand to a finer grit with polish for more length.

I had an silver, but It didn't work for me. It was more of a Light medium ball for me. It didn't go long enough and had a massive turn on the back end. I would recommend that you look into the XXL. I had a chance to throw one a while back and It's a perfect light oil ball for me. It has good length and turned the corner well. It's definately not a dry lane ball. Have not thrown a XL, but from what I have read, there are a lot of people that are unhappy with it, but I personally don't know. Hope this helps,

Depending on drill, all of the sugestions here are good. The emerald would be my call or the viper. If you aren't against urethane the XXL would be another option. For down and in as has been said, you want a mild block.

The "Emerald" shares the same core as the "Blueberry". Sorry mrbowlingnut, I believe that you are mistaken. I have never thrown the "Silver", so I can not give a recommendation.

For me, my Silver is a little stonger than my X. Both have similiar drillings. I go to the XXL when I find the lanes getting too strong.
