I've decided lets try something new.
« on: April 17, 2005, 07:03:35 PM »
We'll i've searched for stuff that i'd like to try out over the summer to practice with and i have tried only 1 lane one ball in my past and it was the cherry bomb pearl. The ball was very over under for me. being high flare and a skidish cover. So i've tracked down a black cherry bomb, and i am going to maybe set it up in the next few weeks.

I know there are reviews, but i want not reviews but comparisons to other balls.

Is the Black cherry compariable to the Ultimate inferno? Or Storm Vertigo?
Balls with Diffs' this high are now banned, so finding them is harder and harder.

FWIW, my Black Cherry, in box surface, was equivalent to a Dyno-Thane Anomaly. Both were huge hooking balls on medium to medium-heavy oil. Neither would handle as much oil as an Ultimate or a Vertigo (only seen the Vertigo recently; looks to be very strong medium-heavy oil ball) but they'd hook a lot more overall. If you're rev-challenged the BCB is a good choice. If you're not, better drill it weak. The coverstock ss a variant of PK 18 polished, so it's very adaptable to changes.

I have to second everything charlest said here aside from the anomaly comparison of course.  For the longest time the Black Cherry was the strongest ball in my bag and was my "heavier oil" ball though as he said not a true oiler with my revs/lack of speed it was all I needed.  The Ultimate/Solid Uranium which I did have is way more ball surface wise and early roll wise than the black cherry, also I have seen glimpses of a Vertigo and it too appears to be more ball.  Basically if you like the skid snap "hook shape" and you need a medium/heavy ball the black should do you well.  I would still have one in my bag if not for the Hybrid dirty bomb which I feel gives me the same roll just a few boards stronger and smoother at the same time.  Like you said thedude I never liked the pearl cherry bomb and never matched up well with it either, I was much more partial to the black myself.

My Cherry Bomb and Black Cherry Bomb were almost identical out of the box (probably because the Black Cherry came with a high polish) both were over/under and I didn't like either one.  I even dulled the Black Cherry Bomb and it didn't help any.  In fact, every Bomb (Army Green, Cherry, and Black Cherry) I have tried I've disliked.  They get more-than-average length for me for whatever reason and do not finish strong even with fresh backends.  Just my .02

well, i am looking at any lane one ball to try out. The reasons i liked the look of the black was the high flare, and solid cover. I play in a center with alot of head oil and fresh backends, so scoring conditions are good. Just with pearls they tend to skid a little too much.

So any recommendations for other stuff? Solid uranium?

Yes thats the mix of the Hybrid, and as for the Solid well i just didn't like it for my game but it is a fine ball just an archy ball in nature and that cover is really grabby and the low rg makes it start realy early.  Gots to have some oil for it to work and honestly never saw enough to warrant keeping mine but have seen enough to use the hybrid although rarely.

I am fortunate to have a low track but a medium high rev rate. So i'm able to use strong high flaring balls, and still have them retain energy.

my axis point is anywhere from 4 to 4 1/2 inches over. my rev rate is in the low 400s. ball speed typically 26 to28kms. axis rotation is 60 to 75 degrees.

prefered layouts are 4 1\2 x 3  and 4 1/2 by 4

Dude, I'd say your ball speed sounds just a touch too slow for the Solid Uranium unless you see a lot of oil.  That is my favorite ball because I have a bit higher speed and am not real comfortable slowing things down, so aggressive coverstocks work great for me.  Between my Solid U, Pearl U, and Dirty Bomb, I haven't found a place in my bag for the Hybrid DB, though I have had some monster games with it in practice.  It sounds like it might be a good match for your game though.

I also have limited experience with the older Bomb cores, and the Cherry Bomb Pearl would fit in right after my Pearl U, for drier conditions.  Doesn't do much in oil.

On a side note, L1B, I'm begging you bro... as a fellow member of FOS I have to ask you to spell check your posts.  The are REALLY hard to read most of the time.  Not trying to be an a*s*s, just saying what a lot of other people are probably thinking:

quote:
Dude I second what Charlest said, teh Solid is better for more oil. The ball will nto be like the UI or teh Vertigo, they ahdnle more oil. The best drilling for this core adn cover macth up, IMO to limit over/under is pin under birdge cg kicked out, wrks well on teh bombs I have seen, including my own. The hybrid is also an awesome choice.

I don't mind a typo here and there, we all do that... I do appreciate the info you share.

Well my ball speed is higher than average, usually about 28 on a regular basis. I've been able to aquire a Uranium tho, used so i'll try it out and post the results here.

Any suggestions about layouts?
