skid/snap ??
« on: May 09, 2005, 01:22:17 AM »
I just got done watching the Lane1 video section on their website (Nice job Mike !) ...anyhow......

I have not yet see a Lane1 ball be snappy....not a negative comment, but just a curiosity question....why not....

the balls that Mike threw were different, w/ different drillings, etc.....but none of them really snap, they're all pretty smooth for the most part,...even on those videos where Richard is throwing those 3 ...(hybrid, db, and uranium) they made a fairly smooth transition, even in HIS hands .....

thoughts?

What do you mean "even in his hands"? I mean...to me...it doesn't look like he has very many revs. Yea, some are hard arc, but none really snap.

Mike drills up alot of his stuff with control-type layouts. you can make a Golden nugget hook-set with ease, but that can be remedied with a proper drilling.

Jeff,

See if you can find a Silver Diamond, thrown by some with average or greater (250 rpm), without a control drilling on it. Heck with even a label drilling. That ball will skid/snap, aggressively!

I had one.......4 1/2 inch pin out ball....cg kicked out...just above and to the right of the thumb hole...thumb quadrant axis hole....THAT was fairly snappy so I can see that........

IMHO, the quicker and harder the snap, the harder it is to control. You will see more over/under with those type of balls and not score as well over the long run. =:^D

Not true. The Blueberry I have is skid, skid, skid, left turn. That's how I like it for my Wed night league. It's all in the drilling. When I get the H2O, I will use more of a control drilling.

I know the Blueberry is not the Hybrid or Uranium, but another guy has both drilled the same way, with the same skid/ hard snap type of reaction.

My mistake. I just meant that IMO, it doesn't have anything to do with the core. I find the breakpoint much more predictable than another company's ball I had drilled to do the same thing. They both have a hard snap, but the other ball seems to be jumpier and unpredictable for me.

Jeff: I just watched the Golden Nugget video. He seemed to be getting plenty of snap on many of his shots. How much more would you want to see?

My style is similar to Mike's (but he's obviously at a different level ), and my Golden Nugget and Dirty Bomb have too much backend to use in league -- they just boomerang off the dry. In retrospect, I wish I had set them up for less backend.

Anyway, extreme skip/snap is not something that's necessarily good. For consistently higher scoring, you want control with carry.

Steven....once again....CURRENT offerings....isn't the GN done ?

I HATE skid/snap personally, does NOT fit my game....I was just noticing while watching the videos that they all nicely arc so-to-speak w/ nothing really snapping.......

Jeff: The Dirty Bomb can be very snappy, depending on how you set it up. Mike's DB video seems to show more of a hook/set look, but you have to take into account the variables. The video says 41' of oil (fairly long), and the drilling might have something to do with it.

Mine is set up with the pin above the ring finger, CG kicked out w/x-hole, and the ball is too much for a well defined wet/dry. On fresh blended (which I rarely see), the ball is a dream.

Anyway, for anyone looking for skid/snap, set up properly the DB (not the Hybrid) would be an excellent choice.
