Lane 1 has pigeonholed themselves with the diamond core thing.  The core has to be a straight up diamond or some derivative of a diamond.

I understand that...but what new innovative newness are they bringing to the table besides a chunk taken out of the core?

Instead of creating a bunch of buzz about this great new product they just put it out there with an elevated price point.  If they don't watch it they will be on elites turf in terms of pricing!

It has to be difficult for Lane #1 to move product when the big brands are 12-15% cheaper.  Consumers are very price savvy and will not shell out more money for what many believe to be an inferior product.

Actually, in the case of many bowlers, it's more about being "cheap" than "price savvy"…..

As far as Lane#1 being perceived as an inferior product, history on this board has shown that many who cling to this perception have never thrown (or much less even have seen) a Lane#1 ball on the lanes.

I used to throw mostly Lane#1, but had to branch out (due to product registration) when I started bowling occasional PBA events. I now throw a large number of Storm and Columbia balls, with a sprinkling of Ebonite and Hammer in the mix. All companies produce good balls, but I will say I've never owned a Lane#1 I wouldn't have purchased again. I can't say that regarding the other companies I've been throwing.

At one point I had only Lane 1 in my bag.  Chainsaw, Blue Death, Supernova XP, and XXXL.  I've also owned a few others.  I agree that the product is on par with the big companies, but on par shouldn't come with 15% premium.  Seismic comes out of the same plant and doesn't cost any more than Storm, Brunswick, or Ebi.

Here is the data sheet:

Way to go Lane 1 on the Core name typo.  They must have edited the text from the Typhoon because it's the "V" Cut Patented Diamond not the Hurricane core.

I'd have to agree here.  I haven't had a Lane 1 ball for a while, but an old favorite of mine, the Carbide LRG was THE ball at sport tournaments when I was a youth.  I had 2 to 3 boards further right than anybody else had.  I also had the Tsunami, Cherry Bomb, Pearl Viper, a Blueberry, an Emerald, a Cranberry, a Uranium, and a Gold Nugget, but I stopped throwing them after Brunswick moved to Mexico.  I really wish I still had every single one of those balls perhaps aside from the Pearl Viper, excellent equipment.  If anybody would resurrect those type of reactions, they'd have the corner on the market.  You remake the Blueberry and the Cranberry and they would sell like all these new "limited" balls are selling.  You find me somebody on this site that wouldn't want a Blueberry and I'll show you somebody who isn't a real bowler.  It was the Hyroad of its generation.

My "inferior" comment was in regards to perception of the general bowling community.  The blueberry C2 is a legendary ball.

Gotta back up what everybody said about the Blueberry/C2.  PK18 wrapped around that core = winner.

I still have a Retro Buzzsaw THS.  I had a Hyroad with the same layout on it and at the same surface -- heck even with surface changes -- the THS proved to be more versatile and carried better.  I put that ball up against benchmark balls from C300, Hammer, and Roto Grip and never found an equal until I got to the Brunswick Versa Max.  Very special ball.

I was almost 100% Lane #1 for awhile there and a few of their balls that didn't work for me -- the Chainsaw in particular -- but I was always happy with their stuff.  In the end, I found that Brunswick stuff new and old were a better match for me, but I'd pay premium again for the right ball.

The HRG was the only Uranium without the dense inner diamond core.  They took it out and replaced it with filler. My friend had one and it was a dud for him.  That and the Chainsaw were the only L1 balls he couldn't get sick carry with.

Hated it and I love/need higher RG balls. Can't imagine your ever using it anywhere except on truly fried or burnt lanes.

I threw a lot of Lane 1 gear back in the Big B days. At that time, I could pretty much count on my Lane 1 stuff to be just slightly smoother than their Big B cousins. My Cherry Bomb Pearl was pretty much an Inferno. My Uranium Solid was pretty much an Ultimate Inferno, and so on and so forth; however, there were a few balls Lane 1 came out with that just worked better than anything else I had seen. To this day, the Lane 1 Bullet was the resin ball I've ever used on dry lanes. Likewise, the original XL gave me a look I've never quite found in another ball.

Still, in the end, all companies make good stuff. If you think that a particular company's gear gives you an edge, buy it even if the price is a bit higher than the competition. If you don't think the product is worth the extra cost, go with the cheaper option. We are all big boys and big girls; I've never understood why so many people worry about what other people spend on equipment. Unless the person buying the expensive ball owes you money, why do you care?

+1 with Gene. Only Lane 1 I ever had was a Silver Diamond (Which was the NUT), but all of the Big B covers seemed to work REALLY well with the diamond.

That being said, I liked the look of the Panther series, and some of them now look OK, but no where near the look with Powerkoil on them.
