I threw a lot of Lane 1 gear back in the Big B days. At that time, I could pretty much count on my Lane 1 stuff to be just slightly smoother than their Big B cousins. My Cherry Bomb Pearl was pretty much an Inferno. My Uranium Solid was pretty much an Ultimate Inferno, and so on and so forth; however, there were a few balls Lane 1 came out with that just worked better than anything else I had seen. To this day, the Lane 1 Bullet was the resin ball I've ever used on dry lanes. Likewise, the original XL gave me a look I've never quite found in another ball.

Still, in the end, all companies make good stuff. If you think that a particular company's gear gives you an edge, buy it even if the price is a bit higher than the competition. If you don't think the product is worth the extra cost, go with the cheaper option. We are all big boys and big girls; I've never understood why so many people worry about what other people spend on equipment. Unless the person buying the expensive ball owes you money, why do you care?

Forgot about the Bullet.  Wish I kept mine.  Fantastic dry lane piece.

It's so weird how region affects perception as well.  Growing up in the northeast I threw a couple Lane 1 pieces and always thought they made a great ball.  ( still have my cherry bomb sitting in a basement)  Though when I moved to the south and I mention Lane 1 people look at me like and start laughing.  I guarantee these people never have thrown one as well, but it's hard to compete when you don't pay the PBA $ to be able to use them in tournaments. Let's face it bowling is on the decline and the people still serious about it who bowl in the occasional tourny don't want to spend $ on a ball they cannot use

You're talking about lane 1 a long time ago.  There was a point in time where there was hype about their releases....was.

Oh, Lane 1 had a cult-like following for a long time. Back then the boards were full of back-and-forth beefs between the Lane 1 fan boys and the haters. I always found it stupid. Again, use what works for you. It's the same with golf balls. Some guys spend $40-50 a dozen, and some guys buy the 18-pack for $11.99. Is one guy right and the other guy wrong? No. It's just about your own cost-value analysis. I liked Lane 1 stuff back in the day, but now I tend to throw 99% Storm. Do what works for you.

18 for $11.99?? Man that ain't cheap, I get mine 100 for $16.00. And they come with a handy basket to carry them in.   ;D

As to the OP, I loved some Lane #1 stuff. Golden Nugget, Emerald C2 and the Pink Panther were all great balls for me. But to pay a premium for the current stuff? Nope, too many better options.

I recall the days of the "haters". I was a Lane 1 fan at that time because their balls made by Brunswick seemed to perform best for me. Then when Lane 1 dumped Brunswick as the maker of their balls, that is when the haters really came alive with most of the haters being Brunswick fans.

For what ever reason, when Global started making Lane 1 balls, they seemed to not perform for me as well as they did prior to that time, so I was forced to look at other brands of which all seemed to do well for me, so it was probably a case of match-up to my style and not bad balls made by Global although it appears that Lane 1 lost a lot of their charm and bowlers when Global began making their balls and that charm seems to have never returned.

Being a Global loyalist and love their covers, they don't match up as well as the powrkoil covers did on the older ones. They could have kept it simple and sold a ton of balls.

OK...this was not supposed to be a "Let's hate on Lane 1" post.  The point I was trying to make is that I hope that prices on all equipment do not creep up because of the new pricing structure.

Let's  not forget that Columbia 300 poured their stuff in between Brunswick and 900 G.  Of course, 900 G bought out C300's San Antonio plant.

The only Lane 1 Columbia poured ball I had was the Red XXXL and I liked that ball very much and kept it from day 1 until the end of last year when I was forced to drop to 12# balls because of back surgery.
