Title: So when will Lane 1 go back to using ......
Post by: bltbyj on January 11, 2010, 12:27:01 PM
So when will Lane 1 go back to using the Diamond core? Not a modified Diamond core where the top, bottom, sides have been cut off or a puck added but a true Diamond core. After all this is the core that made Lane 1. This is not a post to bash Lane 1. So how about it? Who wouldn't like to see the the Cherry Pearl core in let's say the Break Pearl cover? Thoughts?

Not a overly bad idea. These balls were very strong in the midlane and would  kind of backoff through the pins. I had all three of the "original" buzzsaw balls. Some of my higher scores and award scores were bowled with the black and purpleone in the middle to late 90's.

Strong definitely. That's why people bought them strong cover strong core.

My guess for the deviation from the original Diamond has been due to increased pressure from the industry to the more dynamic core designs.

Most bowlers want a ball will bounce by itself with minimal skill. Most old school Lane 1 balls are very smooth and rolly by nature...a booming backend is NOT typically one of their big assets...yes there are exceptions...Silver Diamond, Cherry C2 most notably.

Lane 1 started getting backend with the advent of the Bomb cores (Cherry Bomb, Dirty Bomb) and now the 900 Global coverstocks react much stronger to friction than the old Brunswick covers did. So we are getting more backend now due to the covers.

I would like to see the Uranium cores released again with some of the new high friction coverstocks from 900 Global.

Yes I would also like to see the Uranium core also in some of the different 900 Global covers not just the C/2 cores.

Sit tight.....I have a feeling that the C/2 core will make a re-appearance in the near future.  I obviously don't know for sure, but I can feel it....

They did the Cherry Pearl and it can only be retro if Brunswick makes them. I do like the idea of a 50/50 hybrid cover with the Diamond core.

i hate to say this but i left lane 1 shortly after brunswick and lane 1 seperated. i tried the uranium hrg and 1 other columbia cover lane 1 ball and they were not the same thing for me.

my favorite lane 1 balls of all time was the solid uranium, pearl uranium, and black cherry bomb. i had a ton of lane 1 balls back then. that used to be all i threw.

the cores with 900 global covers do not impress me much. im going to stick with hammer and roto grip. the only lane 1 ball i will have in my bag will be a solid uranium.

I hear you mediumrevs15,
That's when I stopped using Lane 1 and the only Lane 1 balls I have now are a Pearl Cherry, Pearl Carbide and Solid Carbide.

You guys are really missing out.  I've embraced the new balls and covers.  In fact, the Supernova XP (a Columbia pour) was one of the best saws of all time.  That core/cover combo was just phenomenal.

Should really try the new stuff.  The Chainsaw series and Dynamo series are the real deal.

Well guys I have got to tell you. I put holes in my Curve today and tried to throw it in league tonight. Yes, that's right, I said TRIED to throw it in league....HOLY CRAP BATMAN!!!!

I used the basic #1 drilling off the Hammer Black Widow drill sheet...pin over bridge with the cg kicked out 1" and the mass bias is on my VAL since the pin/cg and MB are not in perfect line. No weighthole was required.

This ball is an absolute beast. I ended up standing 10 boards left of where I was with my Blue Death and targeting a full arrow inside of my Blue Death line. So I guess that makes the Curve hook 15 boards more than my Blue Death! However the Curve is ALLLLL backend. The first 45 feet of the lane might as well not even be there....

The Blue Death is an incredible ball for me and it's probably the best ball I have drilled up in the last 4-5 years. I cannot wait to get more time behind the Curve and get it on the spinner to try some surface changes....I think this ball is going to be awesome.

While it is true that the new Lane 1 balls are not the same as the Old Lane 1 balls, the old Lane 1's left some to be desired on many levels. I think the new core and coverstock combinations are matching up great with today's lane conditions. We just need a few WEAKER pieces....

Can I make a plea for the Creature Pearl cover wrapped around the XXXL core????

For those of you who have shunned the "New Lane 1" I suggest you give it a try....I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what they can do. What you must avoid, however, is just doing a 100% comparison to the old Brunswick poured stuff. Just do an unbiased comparison and see what happens....
