Solid Uranium drilling
« on: September 11, 2007, 08:59:36 PM »
Most of my lane#1 balls are drilled cg leverage which is my favorite layout. I intend to drill up my SU and the Pro Shop guy was suggesting a label drill. May I ask what will be the difference in ball reaction between this 2 drillings ? I am a speed dominant with only slightly medium rev. Thanks !!

what condition are you planning on hitting?  the reaction will depend on pin placement of for the label drill, there are all sorts of label drills, with the pin being anywhere from 2" to 4.5 from pap depending on your measurements

Now if you are going to use this ball to hit some oil, I would place the pin under the ring (asuming an approx pap of 5 to 5.5 and up 1/4 or so) this would place the pin in the 4.5 range, but keep it below the finger line, one could move it further right and get closer to 4" for a stronger reaction.  I would place the cg out for x hole placement fine tuning) the pin under will give you some thumb wieght, the cg out will provide side weight, which will all contribute to an earlier rolling, hard charging ball, which if you are bowling on oil, you will need

I drilled one of my Solid Uraniums Label 1:30 as shown on the drill sheet. For me, that put the pin 3.5" from the pap, and even with the finger line.

The ball is great for a fresh heavy shot if you like to play up the boards. The reaction is a very smooth, strong arc.

There are two things to watch out for. You need a fair amount of oil to keep this ball moving. It will burn up on a lighter shot. The other thing is you cannot get deep inside with this drilling. It will not want to finish. It will get to the pocket, but will start leaving pins associated with light hits. Like I said, this drill is great for going up the outside when you have oil out there, but not swinging the middle.

Thanks guys for the reply...I might just drill the Solid Uranium label and see how it goes...hopefully this drilling is good for me too.
Triggerman, it will be a pin below the ring finger layout, just like the rest of my balls. As for the more technical term, like PAP and such I will just leave it to the Pro.
BTW, I will be bringing this ball with the EU for a coming tournament. Lane is heavy oil with very bad backend. I have a Carbide C+, do you think is necessary to bring this ball along too ?
