Solid Uranium Questions

Can anyone tell me the base used for the coverstock?
Is it Activator or PK?

Also,I recall this ball had a tendancy to track high.Is that correct?

Any info appreciated.Your answers will help me determine the drill and surface prep I use.

I'm wondering the same thing, plus what is the OOB condition supposed to be... dull or polished?

Here is the answer you are looking for:  The Solid Uranium coverstock is solid Activator.  Exact same cover as the Strike Zone and Ultimate Inferno.

OOB finish is 800 grit.  Yes, the Solid Uranium does track high for whatever reason.  My track inverts when using this ball.  Strangely, I don't remember having my Uranium Pearl track so high.

I would love to hear someone with technical expertise explain what causes a ball to track so differently from other equipment I own.  I undertand differences in flare, but when my track changes only when throwing this certain ball, I am stumped.

Thanks for the info.I am replacing my Ultimate with this ball.I track low so I was hoping this ball was a high tracker for the heavier oil.
Based on this info I plan a CG leverage drill pin even with ring and 500 Abralon finish.

RRay thanks for the promo I would not have been happy with anything less than an 'ATOMIC' back end.Lane 1 has always been adept at using a great deal of words to say absolutely nothing of value.

On edit I realize you meant until it was discontinued.I agree and was looking at a Strike Zone when a roomie posted a link(quickly deleted)for the Uranium at the same price.It seems I got lucky with the cover.

Does it tame down after so many games like the Ultimate?
If so,not a bad thing,by that time they had payed for themselves and became great second shift balls.

Mine died after about 6 months of heavy use.

It last more than my two propr Black Widows (4 months each).

I picked this up for that 50' flood they start us with Thursdays at Sunnybrook.Figured I'd get it tweaked and box it for the fall.It's just got to last 11 weeks.I May be subbing Fridays at Bowl 1 next year.I could probably use it there too.

I have had two SU's that I put heavy use on, and yes they do after a while soak up enough oil that you can notice a difference in reaction from when they are new.

Each of mine have lasted a good season and a half (150+ games) before a real noticeable change.  I traded away the first one I had, and the one I have now is just recently taming down.  I have yet to try the hot water bath on one, but I have a feeling it will work pretty well.

I gave my Strike Zone a bath and it came back to life pretty well, so I would assume that I will have similar results with my SU because the cover is the same.

Just a follow up- I gave my Solid Uranium a bath last night, using the same method I have used on my Strike Zone, Scorchin' Inferno, and Tsunami.  The results were outstanding!

First I took a burgundy scotchbrite pad and lightly scuffed the surface of the ball by hand, then I put it in the sink full of hot tap water.  I let it soak for 20 minutes and saw the oil at the surface of the water.  It was cool when I added a couple drops of Dawn I could see the oil push to the sides of the sink.

I took the ball out and sprayed some Legends ball cleaner on the wet ball, then wiped it dry.  Quite a bit of grime came out on the towel.  I then tested a spot on the ball with some Clean N Dull to see if any other dirt or substance would come out on the towel, but the Clean N Dull stayed clear and the towel stayed clean, so I knew the ball was soaked clean.

I took it to the lanes today.  Last week I shot 749 with my Black Widow on flying backends.  This week there were virtually NO backends to speak of.  I tried throwing the Widow in practice on the same line I was using last week, and I ended up with a nice washout, didn't even nick the head pin.  I found out later that they had changed the oil pattern because there were two 300's and an 800 shot the first week.

I decided to use the Solid Uranium to see if the OOB reaction had come back, and sure enough, it worked like a champ!  It had just started losing its original reaction before I bathed it.  I moved a little outside and didn't miss the pocket all night.  Shot a clean 720 with more carry-related issues as the only reason I didn't make a run at 800 for the second straight week.

The bath worked and the Solid Uranium was money just like it has always been for me.  I wish I had known about the hot water bath before I traded so much of my old equipment away after I thought they had lost too much reaction for my liking.  Oh well.  The moral of the story is that this ball comes ALL the way back to original reaction with a nice bath, at least after 150+ games or so.  I'll let you know in another 150!

second the whole experiance with my Tsunami... I use that method for a longer time and I can only suggest it for every bowling ball that starts to "squirt" around and has szucked up too much oil.
