I tried the Bullet on dry lanes :(
« on: February 04, 2006, 11:39:46 PM »
I entered a 5 game tournament yesterday and I was on the second squad.  My son had a basketball game during the first squad.  I got to the tournament site to watch a couple of games.  The lanes were dry and flying.  I thought great, a good chance to use the Bullet.  But they didn't oil between squads and the lanes were very dry.  Scores were low with the exception of a couple of local extremely good bowlers.

With the Bullet I tried down and in to see if there was something outside, played 15 out 10 moved even further left and the Bullet continued to check up early.

the drilling on the Bullet has the pin above the ring finger and the CG directly below three inche.  My PAP is 4 7/8 and 5/8 up.  Is the drilling too strong?  Should I kick the pin to about the 2 o'clock position and put the MB on the left of the thumb.  This would put the CG about mid span.

Thanks.

Since the Bullet has almost 0 flare, I doubt it was the drilling. You may not be thinking about it because the Bullet needs so much dry to make the turn but it does need oil to clear the heads. Some oil, any oil; because it's resin so it DOES need oil.

You might have need to go inside the 4th arrow to find that oil, or it might have been so dry, so fried you needed pearlized urethane or even plastic. Can't tell from this distance.

Thank you Charlest.  I dot very deep but I agree that the heads were fried.  I couldn't get the ball to skid right when playing that deep.  It picked up the mid lane too early and never got right of the 15 board.

I did finish the last two games with a 224 and 205 using the XXXL though.  But the ball change was too late.  I actually got a bettr read with the H2O crossing boards with a 1:30 drilling, no balance hole.  I was able to stand againist the ball return (right side only of course) swingacross the fourth arrow out to about 10 and the ball finished greeat.  I just worked so hard to get the Bullet to work because it was a dry lane ball that I didn't consider the H2O until too late in the fifth game.  The XXXL gave me a good look though.

Thanks for the response.

That's the other "catch 22".

A ball for dry lanes like the Bullet is often only good for lines played at the 3rd arrow or furher outside.

When you must go deep, like inside the 4th arrow, you needs a pearl designed for some degree of flip. Don't have to be a lot, just enough to make the turn that the more roll-y. more arc-y ball like the Bullet won't make.
