Super Carbide Bomb.
« on: November 25, 2003, 07:01:02 AM »
OK I just picked one of these up and I am not pleased at all
with it. Span is a little off and there is more reverse pitch in the thumb
but I used to use that exact span and pitch in all my equipment.
what gives it hooks less than my Pearl Carbide Bomb.
I know it is not rolling out I know what that looks like.
I was playing right up 10 with it tonight.
It is drilled a bit differently.
All my current saws are drilled pin under and cg swung ceptin
my XXXL it is pin under cg in palm. Now this here supposed
monster is drilled pin above and between and cg stacked. Prolly like a
5x4 or so to me. I am going to redrill it this weekend, and if I don't like
it then I am gonna trade it off.

I took it and swung it out tonight and it left a big ole washout. I thought this damn ball was suppose to HOOK...
redrill and a bit of polish maybe.???

nope tonnage of oil in the middle and thats where I
was throwing it. I had to go to 10 to get it to hook and thats
the oil line in most of the houses around here and thats also the specific reason I traded for it. I done told ya I know what rollout looks like.

If it is rolling out it is doing so before the damn
arrows as I can see a continous stronger movement
in the little movement I do get. It just does not hook that damn much.
I will repeat myself once
more, I know how to spot ball burnout.

Can dump or sawmill answer and let me know if this may be the drilling.
I do throw the ball pretty fast.

I have to agree with everyone else.  If you purchased it new, then the ball should hook out of the house.  The ball seems to be losing energy somehow in the heads.

I have a super carbide and a super carbide bomb, and the super carbide is stronger that the Bomb, but that is probably the way I have the two layed out. I have the SCB layed out with an axis leverage and  I think the Super Carbide is layed out, pin to the right of ring and a weight hole, don't remember the exact layout. But it is much stronger on oil.

How much use has this ball previously had and how much are you expecting it to hook?

I had the same problem at first. The ball hardly moved because it was burning up. I was even bowling in a sport league at the time. I applied Storm's Diamond polish to it and after that it came alive. I agree with what OnlyBuzzsaw said. This ball will not "hook out of the house" but it will hook when nothing else will. A couple weeks ago, one of the houses I bowl at had a problem with their lane machine. They couldn't clean the back ends so there was alot of carry down. I saw people throwing balls and not even hooking 2 boards. I pulled the SCB out of the bag and was hooking 10-12 boards with it. While everyone was bowling 400-500 series I was able to shoot 600-700 that week. Don't give up on the ball yet. Keep working with the coverstock. Best wishes.

I do video myself but have no means of uploading.
I have a few older clips that I may post if someone
wanted to host them. I have no clue as to how to do all that
hosting stuff.

King,

I spoke with BH, and from the condition he described, it is not rolling out or losing energy.  He has average to below average revs, with above average speed (close to mine), and the 5 1/2 x 4 1/2 layout, w/pin above the bridge and CG almost in the center of palm, is a length layout.

On top of that, he is using it in the oil, and thus it goes long and does not break where it should because of the revs vs speed ratio.  We discussed layouts, and I suggested a 4x4 or 4 1/2 x 4, with the pin even or below ring finger line, and the CG kicked right.  5x4 is too long for a person with his speed and not the revs to compensate.  He will stay in touch as to how it works.

How about 4 1/4" x 3 3/8" with Pin under ring finger and the CG in thumb quadrant of the ball? That is what has been suggested to me by Lane 1 on a Blueberry that wasn't working for me. I have low revs and 14-15 mph speed and Pins higher than ring finger won't work for me, regardless of whether they are beside and up by ring finger or over ring finger/bridge. I just got the ball redrilled yesterday and will try it sometime this week-end.
