Super Carbide Bomb
« on: August 24, 2005, 02:23:20 AM »
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for their support on this matter.

It was our understanding, as well as all other manufacturers, that if a ball was approved before Feb. 1st, 2005 that the ball was grandfathered in and can be released and sold at a later date.

The USBC did not say that production must stop on Feb. 1st for all balls with a diff. higher than .060., that were approved before Feb. 1st. This ruling was for new releases approved after Feb. 1st.

If a ball was re-released, it must be re-submitted for clearance, with a significant change in the color or a name change.

Because our Super Carbide Bomb ball has never been discontinued, as it's remained in our catalog for sale since it's release in 2002, it's not a re-release.

Polishing the coverstock has not been reason for manufacturers to re-submit balls for clearance, as any pro shop can alter the factory box finish.

Therefore, it was our understanding, as well as Brunswick's and all other manufacturers, that the ball was grandfathered in, meanig it can still be produced and sold.

One of the USBC's reps failed to fully understand the USBC's grandfather ruling and over zealously put our ball on the USBC "not approved ball" list.

I have been in contact with the Roger Dalkin, the USBC CEO, to clear up this matter. I will be sending him proof that the ball was never discontinued or taken out of our catalog, which should result in the re-instatement of the Super Carbide Bomb on the "approved ball list".

Please be patient and sorry for any inconvenience. Thank you.

Thanks for the info Richie. Hopefully this will happen as my SCB fills the nich for floods that my Hammers cant quite cover. I would hate for it to become a $225 boat anchor...............

Good news to all Richie. I don't throw Lane 1 yet, but it may be coming in my next ball purchase, the hype is getting to me.

That is really good to hear.  The SCB was and still is going to be my next purchase.  I also heard that the grandfathered balls can only be used up to 2008. Is this true?

Thanks for the update.

Be calm, (even though I wasn't put on the original FOS list), both of these balls will be OK and not "illegal"

My thanks to Richie also. I know with all the guys fit to be tied here got a TON of complaints into the USBC. The emails and phone calls were I'm sure VERY ABUNDANT! I would like to think we mattered also. But I'm sure by Lane #1 telling them about the GF clause halped also. They don't call it Lane #1 for nothing, cause they are #1 in my book... Keep up the great work

Ya know, when I first saw the list I wondered if someone hadn't photoshopped it so as to put the SCB on it.  It made no sense.  Thanks Richie for clearing this up.

(now if I ever find the oil for this ball........)

I also spoke to Chuck today, and got the same response Doug got.  I am new to Lane 1 products, but have been very impressed with their equipment and the way that they have handled this situation.  We bowlers really appreciate someone in the industry going to bat for us, and looking out for us.  USBC could care less about the bowlers it seems, but Lane 1 and a lot of other manufacturers are really stepping up to the plate, and being there for us the customers, as well as this sport.  Thanks again Richie and Chuck!
