Pro Purple advice (UPDATE)
« on: October 19, 2007, 11:03:36 AM »
I just picked up a new Pro Purple.
I am a classic stroker/ power stroker... PAP is 5 over and 1/2 up.
Looking for drill options to produce a smooth arc...no skid/ snap!
Anybody still throwing one of these?
Any suggestions?

you couldn't make that ball snap if you were Robert Smith!

If you're truly a classic stroker, I'd suggest a strong flippy drill, like a pin at 3.5" or 4" from PAP, and approximately at finger height or just below (even pin IN the ring finger {my PAP is not that different}) and CG stacked below,. It still won't flip.

Between the particle coverstock and the VERY low flaring (very low RG Differential) core, it is probably THE most evenly arcing ball resin-based ball I have ever thrown.

Oh yes you can!!!! I own one and its one of the biggest snapping balls in my bag. But I also have a high rev rate which contributes to the snap. I just change hand position to change the reaction. Overall a very good pick up you will love the ball. Hits like a mack truck to. I mostly own all the older saws which I prefer over the new ones out. Plus I think they carry better. I love the ball.

In the bag:
Pearl Cherry C/2(2)
Cranberry
Pro Purple
Enriched Uranium
Cobalt Pearl
G-Force(NIB)
Super Carbide Bomb
Crystal Diamond
Hack-Saw (RARE!!)
No Mercy (NIB)

UPDATE:

I finally gave in and drilled this baby up. I chose to drill the pin in the ring finger (4" from PAP), and the CG is out 45 degrees which allows me to go with a weight hole to tune the reaction if needed.

I was throwing an HRG during league tonight. We were bowling against "the new team", so there was plenty of carry down by the second game. By the end of the night, I was struggling with carry using my HRG.

I stayed afterwards and threw two more games with only the Pro Purple. I was able to play the same small swing (13-14 at the arrows to 9-10 at the breakpoint) as the HRG and carry was great. I was also able to move right and go straight up ten by going up the back of the ball. Carry was also great from this angle. The best news is that this ball did not freak out if you missed right and the bumped the dry.

Overall, I am am very pleased with the reaction I am getting from this ball, and it will have a permanent place in my bag. I can see this ball saving my butt when the lanes get touchy.

And lastly, thank you charlest for the drilling advice...you were spot-on once again

I'd have to see that to believe it.

Agreed.
While trying different lines and such, I tried slowing ball speed down, increasing axis rotation, and grabbing a handful (as much as I am capable of), and the ball still made a smooth predictable arc. It covered a few more boards by throwing it this way, but I honestly do not think this ball is capable of making a hard left turn in box condition. Maybe if you polished the snot out of it and banked it off the dry... but I just don't see it happening.
