Uranium HRG...someone told me this thing didn't hook much...
« on: December 16, 2008, 01:38:33 PM »
Somebody lied. (g)

Bought it for dry lanes and didn't fully plug it. The drill that's on it leaves the pin high above my ring finger, about 4 inches away from PAP and with about a 1.5-inch buffer to my VAL. I took the surface up to 4000 and polished it, thinking I could use it on very dry lanes.

Well, not so much. This thing still moves a ton. But I will say this -- I don't think I've ever seen anything hit this hard on a full hit. I assume this ball is supposed to be high RG. I haven't thrown a lot of high-RG equipment successfully in the past, so this is a bit new.

Looks like I'll be getting a Chainsaw after all sometime after Jan. 1, because this ball stands a better chance of replacing my Evolution as a medium-dry ball than it does serving as a dry lane piece.

i found this same thing out too.... lol.

this ball is an animal in the pocket.... chainsaw way way smoother...
HRG... long and strong.. (labeled) for me.

floats out there and turns then SMASHHHHHH!!!!!!
I had mine depolished.... to get a bit more smoothness out of it but the guy that redid the thumb shined it back up.. knock a tad of the polish off it and you will see more smoothness out of it...

I'm a big believer in watching the ball path through the pocket. On three different strike shots tonight, the last thing to go was the 9 pin, and when it went, it did so because something violently went to the left sideboard and came screaming back across.

I felt sure if I moved far enough in that it would get oil-allergic like my Evolution does, but it didn't. One weak 10 in two games and I actually deserved something worse (2-8-10 or 5-10) on that shot, because it was a terrible pitch.

Jess. If that's the ball you got from me, I couldn't use it on dry lanes either unless I got the speed up. The ball is meet to be for drier lanes but I feel that it's more of a true medium lane ball.

Yeah, it's yours but you weren't the one who lied to me about it being a dry-lane ball. (g) The "liar" was someone else, and it's not really a big deal.

This marks the second ball I've got in my arsenal (a Dyno-Thane Threshold being the other) that has a high pin and short pin buffer to my VAL. Both this one and the Threshold are just monsters at the end. When I get the Chainsaw, I'm definitely going to have to do something different with the drill pattern to keep it tame. High pin + short buffer = dear gawd did you see that messenger.

Well I'm glad that it will fit somewhere in your arsenal.

It definitely will! I really think it will take the place of the Evolution eventually, because it's more versatile. My Evo is great but only within a narrow range of conditions.

Jess

* And to anyone who might be reading, Hogsharley is a great seller -- this ball looked brand-new when I got it and he treated me great as a buyer.

I agree this is not a dry lanes ball at all, I use it pin high box finish on light mediums with carrydown it makes the corner everytime. I suspect the cover is same as the AMF Titan or similar like the black gold messenger type of cover.

Is the HRG a Columbia-poured ball? I thought it was still a Brunswick cover.

Wow -- I never would have guessed. It behaves more like the Brunswick-poured balls than the Columbia-poured balls. I typically have matchup problems with Columbia covers, but not on the HRG.

I absolutely love mine can play it from heavy mediums to light. It actually plays like the original cuda /c pearl to me...... those BASF coverstocks will surely be missed
hopefully arrangements can be made and this core will be back with another BASF cover soon ........

its the M80 coverstock

they used the same coverstock on the G Force only solid and that thing hooks quite a bit
