SuperNova XP
« on: October 19, 2007, 08:04:56 AM »
The new SuperNova XP is a pearlized version of the original SuperNova.

I received my ball yesterday from Lane 1 (Thanks Chuck and Richie!!!!) and I have to say I am VERY impressed with this ball. The ball responds well to bowler input and is NOT overly sensitive to lane condition changes.

I have been used to making major moves throughout the league night but this ball allowed me to move only 2-3 boards for the night. I am very impressed with this ball thus far.

I will be bowling with it again tonight and will get all of the pertinent information for you along with pics.

This ball has made me forget about my Black Widow Pearl and my SpitFire. My Cobalt Bomb Pearl may very well go up for sale as well. It clears the heads as well as the BWP and recovers as well as the Cobalt Pearl.

I am telling you this ball is THAT good!!!! And to boot the color combo is nothing like Lane 1 has ever used.

This ball is flat out awesome. You guys know I am a Lane 1 guy but I have not been this amped up about a ball since the Cobalt Bomb Pearl.....

I'll have a pre-order price and such on my website as soon as all of the info is available.

Feel free to drop me a PM or email if you want more information.

My XP and Evolution are drilled quite differently...pin under vs pin over so comparison is pretty tough but here it goes.

The Evolution is VERY clean thru the heads and mids with a strong angular backend.

The SuperNova XP is just as clean thru the heads but has a stronger midlane read but retains almost the backend reaction of the Evolution.

I loved my Evolution on our house shot as I was able to play it up the boards or swing it but this XP made me not even consider taking the Evo out of the bag.

The 1-2 punch of the SuperNova and XP should be a fantastic 1-2 punch to cover 90% of the lane conditions out there.

As for teh ad copy...I have no idea...didn't even know there was an issue. I do not as of yet have a printed copy of the sell sheet so I cannot say.

I have seen the advertisement for this ball.
It says, pearlized version of the original SuperNova.
The original SuperNova coverstock is solid particle.
So, is the SuperNova XP a particle pearl or a reactive
pearl?

I'll let you know if I decide to sell off my Cobalt Pearl XFest...

As for pearl resin vs pearl particle, the ball reacts much more like a pearl resin than a pearl particle but then too the SuperNova acts more like a solid resin than a particle in my opinion. The coverstock has more of a resin "feel" to it than a particle too.

Even with my pin under drill pattern the ball is far more angular than any of the pearl particles I have thrown from Lane 1 so....I don't know.

I asked Doug, it is a pearl reactive, it is a combo of pearls from global 900, the base is the same as the evo, but with another pearl reactive mixed in, I was not told what the second pearl was.

The more I throw this ball the more I like it. I am seeing a midlane read like the Cherry C/2 with the backend potential of the Silver Diamond.

This ball is just flat out awesome. Very forgiving to hand position changes and adapts well....it will be a big seller for Lane 1...quite possibly the biggest seller in their history.

Will be having a great intro price on this ball. See my website for details.

Update to original review.....

After playing the ball some more I have found out a few things.

1. This is the first pin under ball I have been able to play up the boards.

2. This is one of the few pearl balls I have been able to play deep and get it to recover enough to snap out the corners.

3. If I decrease the tilt and just roll the ball end over end with speed it reads the midlane like no other pearl I have ever thrown.

4. Regardless how much tilt and rotation I put on the ball it will not over-react and snap up.

I am planning on getting another one and drilling it with the pin in a higher & stronger position.

Will report more later.

Anybody wanna buy a Black Widow Pearl, SpitFire or Hole Pounder Pearl??? I sure don't need them anymore!

i agree with doug...drilled my xp stacked...i love my supernova with a stacked drilling, so copied that to see how the coverstock changes the ball....this ball hits so hard, and as doug says, you can play inside and it will take out the corner pins. i love the nova as it allows me to play with out backing off my ball speed....the ball looks great and will look forward to using it at a tournament in a couple of weeks.
first nigh out with the xp, 708 series!

I have the 2 balls drilled quite differently. The XP is pin under ring while the Evo is pin over. Teh Evo goes thru the heads much straighter and I get more skid/snmap withthe Evo vs a long arc with the XP.

I am going to get a 2nd XP and drill like the Evo to compare.

I think the XP could work on lighter conditions with a length layout...pin over bridge etc.

Can you tell me the differences between the Supernova XP and the G-Forrce Evolution? My Evolution seems to skid a little to much through the carry down during the 2nd game.

COmparing the XP and Evolution is not a fair comparison, in all actuality.

I don't think you will be able to get the same amount of length out of teh XP as you will the Evolution/ At the same time I doubt if you can get the same midlane read out of the Evolution as the XP possesses.

The stronger core and coverstock of the XP makes it more Buzzsaw-like in that it reads the midlane very strong and has a very strong and predictable reaction. The ball reminds me a lot of the Cherry C2.

The Evolution is more skid-snappy...very reminiscent of the Cherry Bomb pearl or the Silver Diamond.

As it stands the Evolution and XP are my 1-2 punch for our typical league shot. My pin under ring XP will cut the corner better if there's any carrydown or if the lanes are oilier than normal.  The Evolution drilled pin over ring allows me to play a more direct line upthe boards and take advantage of the over-reactive backends we typically see.

Hope I was helpful.

On a side note my pre-order special for the XP closes up on Wednesday the 14th. The price is $159 shipped within the continental US.
