I own:
XXXL - oldest and after some polishing still running; well what else to expect from plastic ; The ball was drilled Jan2006!
Tsunami - only 2 weaks "younger" (Feb2006) - still working fine cause I keep my stuff clean
H2O - same as Tsunami yet very short in my possesion
BCB - got it used (I think I am the 3rd one to own the ball)... was in "good" shape yet had some oil in it - extensive deoiling did the trick and the ball is a beast again!

Every 4 weeks I give my balls a nice hot water bath and the ones that are polished oob I repolish them with Beans secret sauce whenn I get the feeling they roll too early.

All balls work fine and are tacky and nothing about "dying"; as far as I understand solids soak up oil faster and it also depends on the material a lot!
(don't

Imho there is not such a thing as dying!
It all depends on how you maintain your equipment: deoiling and repolishing/resurfacing is the key

There seem to be some balls that are very frustrating about that - NoMercy seems to be such a ball and from what I have heard so far the TNV seems to be also a bugger - but I cannot comment on that as I only had my Tsunami longer than year.

Short: Keep your balls clean and in good condition and they will never die! (imho)

comparing balls is kind of hard to do, lanemasters covers run all the way to the core, not sure how they handle oil as far as absorbtion rate.  Ebo is making their stuff so it absorbs at an alarming rate in my book, resurfacing/baking/bathing at 100 games then it seems like every 30-50 after that (new covers mind you) lane #1 seems to take the best covers as far as longevity from who ever is pouring and gets great results in the longevity department.  I have a cherry c/2 with prolly 1500-2000 games on it and I have only cleaned and polished the ball, absolutely no loss in performance for me.  I had both original carbides, with 1000+ games, still rolled great when i gave them away. my tsunami is still in play, been rolling it since the day it came out.  all the big b stuff held well, my columbia covered balls seem to be jsut as good, my evo is well over 100 games and no problems, I have repolished it once but nothing drastic.  and the new supernova seems to be holding very well, I typically throw it 9 of my 12 games in league a week.  One of the things i like about their stuff is the ability to hold up to abuse i put it though

Most of them have Powerkoil18- or Activator-based covers.  Given that those are two of the most durable covers around, I'd guess that longevity's not an issue for most.  I bowl with a guy who's got many hundreds of games on his BCB, another with a pearl Cherry Bomb, also with many hundreds of games.

i have the Hybrid dirty bomb, enriched, cobalt and xxxl and i have not seen any noticeable dying in them at all. if anything, theyre getting stronger. i bought them all used, a one pretty decently used, and it is my favorite ball by far. ive put over a 1500 games on it, not including what the first owner did, and it still works great. i haven't tried any columbia covers but the brunswick covers are absolute beasts. iwouldn't worry about them dying on you.

As others have said, being that until recently they were Brunswick based covers, you got good life out of the reactives. I have seen some of the particle ones die quick (the Carbide Bomb comes to mind) but otherwise they seem to hold up well.
