paging the drillig gurus
« on: October 07, 2007, 11:45:52 PM »
got a guy, not quite a roller but has a very high track, 5.875 over 1/4 up is what his shop has measured him to.  put him in a supernova but gave the wrong drilling advice (my fault as I guess I did not ask the right questions and made some assumptions, welcome to the internet i guess)  anyway we laid the first ball out i got a shorter pin as he stated he was on some heavier oil and wanted some mid lane read, had his driller lay it out pin under ring, with the mb 2" right of thumb, resulted in pin being 5" from pap (mistake 1) mistake 2 was not getting his true pap.  so now we are going to punch a second ball up, I will be doing it here, and am looking for some options for this high tracker.

for the record he has thrown two of his team mates balls (who are drilled full roller) and they move hard for him.  he has a TNV and teammate has a TNV, teammate is full roller, his is drilled label.  he tells me that they are night and day hte full roller one moves for him the label does not.  Suggestions on a lay out.  he says his speed is 15-17 depending

I would go with a 3-5" pin drilled 4 x 2, pin about finger height. This should get the ball to turn over strong in the midlane. =:^D

might want to be careful while placing the pin under his fingers. Sometimes with todays flaring balls it might clip the fingers... I am seeing this occur more and more...

right now the ball is drilled 5" pin to pap with mb at 55* shorter pin, pin under the ring, according to user it does not clip the fingers, just has nothign on the back end for him

knowing that I have a high track .. I would suggest putting the pin above the finger line instead of under.  I rarly have success with pin under, especially with the diamond core.

My PAP is 5" over and 1/2" up.

I drilled my Supernova 4x4 stacked (pin and MB both 4" from PAP).
The pin is fairly high in a 1:00 position from the ring finger, and the MB is in a 4:00 posion from the thumb. CG is just above the midline. I used a small weight hole on the PAP to bring the statics back to legal. FWIW, ending weights are 0+/- finger, and 3/4+ side.

This ball is a mid-lane monster! I cannot use this ball at one of my houses on a medium condition. At the other house with a heavier THS, this ball is a beauty! It reads the mids very strong and makes a nice turn towards the pocket.

Hook him up with a max leverage drill...or close to it.

pin 1" right of ring and kick the MB under the thumbhole.

This will give the ball roll and read while still getting the job done on the backend due to the pin being right of the MB.

you mean 3 3/8" Pin to PAP and 6" MB to PAP?
Your terminology doesnt exactly sound "pro shop-esque"

Why not use the actual measurements if you know his PAP?

I just tell the pro shop guy to give my the layout with the most strikes in it.

He hasn't done it yet..

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

c(')(') here bunny bunny bunny....

It's not the layout, but the ball itself.  Your driller doesn't buy the balls with lots of strikes in them!!

I used to tell customers that I picked out balls at the distributor myself.  That the manufacturers printed how many strikes were in each ball.  I only bought the "high volume" balls, but had to pull them myself.  LOL!  I made sure they knew I was joking, some people actually started looking at the numbers on the outside of the box!!

Have a nice weeekend!
