supernova/supernova xp...how to drill for good combo?
« on: November 29, 2007, 12:38:38 PM »
Just looking for some ideas on how to drill these two balls.  Looking for a good 1-2 punch.  Supernova for the heavier stuff, xp more length for med conditions.  I have a stroker type game.  Average speed/revs.  Thanks.

i dont know if anyone else has had a problem, but with the supernova i had a problem tracking high over thumb and fingers so just get good advice before drilling, apparently there has been a few people with this problem,,,,weight hole in the thumb quadrant seems to take care of it

I am a high tracker and I have no problems with either ball clipping the holes. My supernova is drilled stacked with x-hole on the PAP, and my XP has a label 1:30 drill and no x-hole.

I have both and have no issues with weird tracking eithter, but i dont track really high either (over 5 up 0)  I would not hesitate to drill them the same, the original nova is a midlane monster where as the xp is naturally longer.  mine are drilled drastically differetn with the nova being 5.5 x 55* resulting in pin above middle finger, cg in palm mb just a tick right of thumb, my xp is drilled pin in ring mb out slightly resulting in a 4.375 x 50* layout.  i had polished the nova prior to the xp getting here, right now they are similar with the nova being ultra smooth and stronger in oil on the back, the xp is all length and backend.  I am considering a second solid and drilling it just like my xp to let me cover the heavier stuff

i would consider a 4-4.5 pin to pap with a 50-55* mb location, nova pin equal to or below finger line.  xp pin slightly above finger line to above fingers, should get great midlane out of the nova and great length and backend out of the xp, throw a clear diamond in there and you should have just about every league shot covered

I would go with the SNova drilled CG out 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 pin over the ring finger, with xtra hole drilled back to 1/2 side.

The XP I would go label 1:30 with a 1-2" pin, 1/2 side 1/2 finger statics. This will give you an excellent 1-2 punch. =:^D

T-God, why the Xp label instead of cg out? the reason I ask is I have a nova drilled cg out, and a XP on the way, was thinking of getting it drilled exatly the same.

With the XP drilled the same way, you might want to polish it up a bit more.  Sometimes when you have the pearl drilled CG out and the solid one starts hooking too soon, the pearl may hook a bit too soon also. With the 1:30 drilling on the XP, it would increase the length and help in the recovery a bit more when the lanes start to dry out, that's all. =:^D

T-GOD: What's your perspective of the 1:30 on the solid SN?

I slapped the label drill on my XP and it is exactly what I was looking for. Enough length and a smooth reaction...not a flip, just a strong arc. It really is a great one two punch!

Steven, the 1:30 label drill will give added length in the body and a stronger motion off the dry down the lane, with more continuation through the backend.

A 4 x 4 1/2 or 3 3/4 x 4 1/4 ending with 1/2 pos, 1/2 finger and 1/2 top with a shorter pin is a deadly combination. =:^D

T-God, Here are my specs. 3-4" pin, 3.25 top, Rev rate is probably around 500 t0 600, with speed 17-18 probably, unfortunately those are only guestimates, I usually stand around 20 or 25 and throw to 5 or 10. Tell me what the difference between a 1:30 lable VS. CG out (like my Nova) ??

I drilld both of my S-Novas the same way....pin under ring with the cg sitting at approximately 5:00 to the pin. My XP is a shorter pin and the solid a longer pin but both are great.

I had an original Super that I drilled a couple of different ways but never cared for the reaction with the pin above and around the fingers. I sent that one back to Lane 1 to see if there was something wrong with the ball. I have not yet heard back.

Both of these balls work great pin under however....the solid is a beast with this drilling and the XP couold well be the most perfect house shot ball on the planet.
