surface changes

I am having trouble with my new solid cobalt bomb getting throw carrydown once the oil has pushed down the lane.

I was thinking of taking it to 4000 abralon to see if this helps. Has anyone tried any successful surface changes on this ball?

Maybe the "0" key got stuck.
400 grit would seem like a better idea.

Umm... No

This is, after all, a Brunswick coverstock.  They are known to start hooking when your thumb exits the ball.

Generally on a lane where there is enough carry down to make a polished ball skid, the heads are dry enough to make a 400 grit ball lose energy too fast.

2000-4000 abralon should get the ball to "ignore" the carrydown to an extent and not burn up in the heads.

Another alternative is Brunswick Rough Buff over 220-400 grit sanding.

Gonz, the solid Cobalt is for the fresh. When the lanes break down, go to the pearl Cobalt. The pearl over-reacts on the fresh and needs some carry down. give it a try. =:^D

I dont follow....or understand, completly, what the issue is.
Seems to me that a solid would get 'throw' (lol) carrydown better than a pearl. Are you making approach/line adjustments in an effort to stay in the head oil?
IMO, pearls are great for getting through a drying head but they can be VERY over/under and erratic in carrydown. You MUST be very consistant with your delivery and ball speed..........

First off thanks for the helpful responses as I've been out of town for a few days and haven't been logged on.

It looks like my wording did confuse some of you, and I can see why. The ball does clear the heads fine once the carrydown occurs, it is not burning up. It just seems the ball starts to ping and lose it's aggressive hit through the deeper oil, unlike the hit it provides through the fresh (this is an fairly oily synthetic shot being laid.

I was thinking of putting the ball on my spinner and sanding to 4000 grit for a smooth, yet unpolished finish and trying. I know over the years I have had success removing manufacturer polish and going with a very fine smooth finish(and based on result, sometimes adding a light coat of black magic). My hope would be to not lose the hit it provides on fresh and increase it's abilities in light carrydown, as I have plenty of balls to switch too, but really admire the control and consistency this ball has provided me.

A shout out to T-GOD as his post makes total sense if you see this ball in action.

Haven't thrown much lane1 stuff but the one I had died as soon as I changed the cover and when I hit my Total Annihalation with abarlon it died a couple of weeks later
