surface on Hybrid Dirty Bomb and Uranium?
« on: May 02, 2007, 05:38:03 PM »
Just picked up a couple of single-drill Lane#1 balls, and would like to know the underlying surface grits since I see most all of these are polished. Will they be effective at a different(lower) grit without polish, or do they need the polish to make it through the heads? I have never used any Lane#1 equipment, and since I got a great deal on these two I figured I'd try 'em out. Most of my stuff is dulled because I have a lot of ball-speed(18-19mph) with tweener revs. My preferred line is down-and-in from about the 3 to 5 board, and pin-under ring so that the ball starts picking up in the mid-lane. I am also a high-tracker. Got my own spinner so I can play with a lot of surface changes, but would like to know a good starting point. Thanks for your help!

If the uranium is the solid, the box finish was 800 grit no polish. The HDB I think was 600 grit then polished. You could e-mail lane one if you need more.

bought a used dirty bomb, had drilled all out hook . ball will come  off the 5 board and hook at mid to pocket . got to  move in as lanes dry .you have to cook the oil out when she turns purple or she will flat out. never put sand paper to this ball

why?  they are sanded at the factory, that is what they are using there too, the dirty bomb and hybrid dirty bomb are both brunswick covered Reactive sanding is quite acceptable to resurface these balls

the solid U if that is what you have is most definitly in the 800 no polish catergory, the HDB is iffy, I saw these come two ways , both have a base of about 800 some were done up in rough buff and some were slightly polished, i have mine slightly polished to 1000 and it is a dream, smooth and powerful on med heavy type stuff

If your uranium is pearl or enriched, 800 grit plus polish, the enriched should be cut with abralon or trizact pads to maintain it

While I was looking for info on these two balls, Hybrid Dirty Bomd and Uranium, I noticed that the Uranium is listed in both the current balls section and the retired balls section? This is the blue (solid) Uranium that you guys tell me is the 800 grit-no polish model. Anyhow, thanks for the info Triggerman... and I'm not afraid to put sandpaper or Abralon or Scotchbrite to a ball surface. If I do polish one or both of them, should I take it to a lower grit first, and what kind of polish is recommended? I want something that still reads the midlane, not some super-slick stuff. Thanks again, sawheads!

personally i like to take mine down to 600 grit (green scotchbrite pad) 6 sides, then bring it back up with ebonight powerhouse, or similar, I the powerhouse is nice as you can vary the final finish based upon pressure, I bring mine back up to roughly 1000 on the hdb, my evolution i brought back closer to 1200.

your hdb if you are looking for a similar to box, go with 600, then bring it up with ruff buff type polish
