Title: Teal THS Mini-Review
Post by: Doug Sterner on May 13, 2008, 02:32:51 PM
First off kudos to Lane 1 and RIchie for listening to the bowlers and bringing back a piece from the past that is all about control instead of just monster hook or huge backend.

Thanks again to Richie and Chuck for getting one of these balls in my hands to take for a test drive.

First off the ball is a 15# with 2-3" pin and top weight of 3-1/4 oz.

When I asked Chuck how I should drill this ball he gave me direct orders to do nothing exotic....no cg outs or Ricos or stacked leverage or anything...just a simple label shift. So I drilled mine with the cg between the ring and thumb and the pin above and right of the ring.

This left me with 1/2 side, 1/4 finger and even on the top/ bottom.

All I have to say is WOW!!! I am in love here. The ball clears the heads (even in the semi-matte box finish) and rolls silky smooth in the mids and is strong but not explosive on the backend.

This is exactly what the boys from Syracuse say it is...about perfect for the typical house shot. The ball gave me room both ways and was very responsive to hand position changes.

The backend is very smooth...not explosive like a lot of the newer stuff.

This ball will be a winner for Lane 1....great ball.

I saw these being made at the 900 Global plant down in SA last week.. Its a nice looking ball and seemed kind of dull looking if I remember correctly..

Sounds very familiar. Strong, smooth, control. I had the same to say when I first started throwing the Creature Solid. Balls like this are exactly what the doctor ordered for adult bumper bowling

I don't always agree with Inverted's opinions, attitude, and etc, but this is one time I am in total agreement with him. I'd like to see someone other than Richie, Mike, etc. throw this ball. Someone like Britton, rev-trex, Buddies Pro Shop, or even an every day house hack with a 185-195 or so average.

Doug,
No offense, but I'd love to see Richie send one of these to Britton so he can give an unbaised review of the ball and post a video of it without all the hype on video ball reviews.

Any chance of that happening??

Keep looking... I'm sure there's a 300 in one of those balls you keep buying!!

Sorry guys but I don't have any digital video capabilities.

All I have is an old Sharp 8mm that I can't get to interface correctly with the Dazzle hardware I purchased.

As for Richie getting a ball to someone to review, I have no way of making that happen.

Why is it that noboy can post anything USEFUL in the Lane 1 forum without it turning into a "Lane 1 is nothing more than a bunch of over-priced, old technology, over-hyped, crappy bowling balls that exist only because there is a huge cult following who think Richie is God" thread?

If you don't like the product or care for their marketing then suck it up and deal with it.

And for those of you comparing the Creature solid and the Teal, there is no comparison...the Creature is smooth but NOT as smooth as the Teal. My similarly drilled Creature is significantly more angular at the break than the Teal.

Do I need to restate my review???

SMOOTH with no hint of snap...even from a higher rev player on a house shot.

And for the Inverted1...

1. I am not a staffer, just a pro shop guy.
2. The comp ball was provided to me as a result of the volume of sales I generate for the company. Perhaps if more companies would do such things maybe more people would be hyping other ball companies...I sold more Storm balls than anything else over the last 3-4 years but can I even get their Regional Sales rep to return my phone calls? NOPE! I did manage to get a Black Widow Bite from the Hamnmer rep but he would only give me one if I bought another one first. WTF is that?
3. I have had other equipment in my bag over the past season...Storm X Factor, Blue Hammer, Black Phantom, Storm FirePower, G-900 Creature, Banger Hole Pounder Pearl, Storm Special Agent, AMF Titan, Brunswick PowerGroove, Hammer Doom, Hammer Black Widow Pearl but I have personally had the best luck with Lane 1 balls.

Nuff said....

Ironhorse...the ball is significantly different in reaction than the BuzzBomb.

It is true that I can play a similar line with both the Teal and the BuzzBomb however my Buzzbomb is drilled for length and polished whiole teh Teal is out of the box. The Reaction of the Teal is much smoother and less angular than the Buzzbomb.

I threw both balls side by side for a total of 6 games on the same pair and the Teal picked up a hair earlier with a smoother backend reaction.

The BuzzBomb was a longer and snappier ball...on our house shot that is.

The one thing I did notice was that I stoned my share of 9 pins with the BuzzBomb but I did not leave a single 8 or 9 with the Teal. If I pushed the ball out too far, too early I'd whack a 10 pin every time but that's expected on our lanes with the shot they put out.

The ball is awesome.....
