Tracking averages using Lane #1 vs. not using Lane #1...
« on: June 27, 2008, 11:01:30 AM »
With about six weeks left in the fall league, after my team was eliminated, I started playing around with arsenals, trying to determine what I should be using in leagues and tournaments and what I should sell/leave home.

I've continued the experiment into the fall in order to get a 10-week sample. I had to throw out one week in the spring because I arrived late only to bowl the final game of a three-game set, with no warmup time.

When reading this information, be aware that I used Lane #1 gear at two different points: The first three weeks, and the final week -- I marked those weeks with an "*". The six weeks in the middle saw me using a mix of gear, mostly Storm and Roto Grip. In order to read the table of information, I've notated score in + or -. This is not + or - 200, this is + or - my average. This is done to more easily track the change in my progress/regress.

The Lane #1 balls used included primary a Tsunami H20 and a G-Force Evolution, but also included a Dirty Bomb, Hybrid Dirty Bomb and an Enriched Uranium.

1. +34*
2. +104* (included my high game of the year, 264, with the Tsunami)
3. +10*
4. -41
5. -28
6. +3
7. -82
8. -101 (included a game of 108)
9. -63
10. +55*

With Lane #1: Four weeks, +203, four of four weeks above average
With other gear: Six weeks, -312, one of six weeks above average

Draw whatever conclusions you like. What I draw from it is something about matching up. And to make sure I don't leave my Tsunami or Evolution at home.

What was the non-Lane 1 equipment that you used? Was it similar in coverstock grit and layout?

this is a VERY nice idea, and I mught try it on a league I might bowl as a "fun" league (except with/without Visionary). I would like to ask though can you really blame a 108 game on equipment? I know that you may not be Walter Ray or anything, but at some point the blame DOES come off the equipment. This isn't a knock on you or anything, I'm just saying that take out that 1 night, and the numbers don't look NEARLY as bad...though still aparent that you DEFINATELY match up better to Lane#1. Once again, thanks for a great look into how easy it is to determine how people can find out what matches their style.

Dan,

To be honest, if I started listing them all, I'd forget some.

I don't have a lot of things that mimic my Tsunami H20, but I do have quite a few things that are similar to my Evo, and certainly my DB/HDB. Other than the week I tried to use a Dyno-Thane Threshold with a Tommy Jones drilling, there weren't any real weird drillings in the bunch. Except for a Thunderstruck solid and pearl that are both drilled Rico, and they were probably the stuff I had the most luck with outside the Lane #1 family.

The balls I used most frequently outside the Lane #1 family were: Thunderstruck Pearl, Dark Thunder Pearl, Epic Saga, Retro Resurrection, Threshold. A couple of others were mixed in there as well.

I wasn't blaming the 108 on equipment as much as just putting in an anecdote to help explain the particular poor set of numbers that week. The fact that I missed three single-pin spares in that game had zilch to do with the ball.
