first ball

i'm looking at trying lane #1 for the first time.  what ball would be the best to see what lane #1 really has to offer me?

Based on your profile, I would recommend a Supernova.
You already have several flippy pearls.
The Supernova will read the midlane earlier than your 3 high end Ebonite balls.
The Supernova is very versatile right out of the box, but it also responds well to coverstock changes (sanding or polishing) if you decide you want more or less length. I can use my Supernova at both local houses...one is a heavy THS and the ball works well up the boards there...the other house is a medium THS, and I can swing the Supernova there.

alrighty,  i believe i can arrange getting a supernova.  what about any of the lane #1 balls before the g force?  any that people recommend or that i should stay away from?  I've never kept up with the lane #1 brand and i don't want to blow my money on a ball the public thinks is a fluke.  i love my ebonite stuff.  ebonite fits my style well and i'm able to read the ball.  if lane #1 is everything that buzz heads saw it is then i will go that way too.

The Tsunami is imho a very versatile ball and a very good "allrounder"

My H2O I like much for drier and fresh lanes.

I had a Carbide+ that with it's long and weaker drilling was also good for those used up and carried down lanes

Well, this is where you will get a wide variety of opinions.

Of the 3 balls Grayson listed, I did not like two of them at all. In fact, of my 40-somthing Lane #1 balls, the Tsunami and Carbide+ are two of my least favorite balls. That said, I have been told that there were bad batches of both of those balls, so it could just depend on whether you get a good one or a bad one.

Some of my favorites:
Solid Uranium
Pearl Uranium
Uranium HRG
Cobalt Pearl
Black Cherry Bomb
Bullet
XXXL

There are many others that I have shot well with, but I keep going back to these for some reason. Still, I would suggest a Supernova for your first one.

oh oh oh.... what a big deficiancy of me... ignoring the XXXL!

This is a must have for all people!

The only plastic with a true wieght block... I use mine as spareball and when lanes get real "dusty" dry. and it is drilled strong.

So the XXXL for sure is also one of my favourites!

For the Tsunami I know what you mean.

The ball is a tad finicky ... right now I would like to have mine drilled stronger to get a reasonable result... whenb I started it was perfect.

Agreed, also a very safe choice.  You but a BuzzBomb that hooks way to much or an XXXL and it doesn't work at all and You'll never want to touch a Lane#1 ball again...

Black or Blueberry C/2 are both a can't miss. For a pearl, the Silver diamond Buzzsaw/C was great. A big skid hook ball. The pearl Uranium was also a great all around ball. The original Buzzsaw/C Carbide worked great. The SuperNova and Nova XP are both great, one solid and one pearl. Both very versatile on different conditions. The original Purple Buzzsaw is considered one of the best balls of all time. It's probably a bit out dated now though. =:^D

my first Lane 1 was an Enriched Uranium I love that ball hits like a truck and I have 600+ games on it and nothing done to it.

Solid Cobalt Bomb for me was also a great ball had good backend with alot of carry.

Then there is the Supernova XP and that ball is just plain sick.  Tons of backend and actually for me it is more aggressive then my G-Force Solid with the same drill.

I would recommend any of the three balls I listed.

My friend has both the Supernova and Cobalt Solid which he had them drilled with the same layout. Pin under and bomb at 45 degrees. He said he plays around the same area with both ball (oil lanes only). He loves them both and observed that the Supernova rolls a little earlier than the Cobalt probably due to the fact it being a particle ball. He said they both hit like a tank. I tried both of them and was so impressed that I went on Ebay and bought the Cobalt Solid yesterday for $92.00 (I got lucky) which is much cheaper than the Supernova which is selling on Ebay for $170's. On Buddiesproshop.com and Bowlingball.com the Supernova sells for around $200. There are a bunch of Cobalt Solid right now on Ebay that going for $110. Check it out. Good luck.

I am curious about the HRG though.... does it do well on light oil? i am needing a replacement ball that does well in a broken down pattern.

Depends on what you mean by broken down (with the HRG).
Fresh shot medium to light oil...no problem.
Fried track...speed up or move in and bounce the HRG off the track...no problem.
Carry down...no way.
Bone dry...no way.

Solid Uranium is a good rolly ball.
I have two of them and would not part with either one.
