Tsunami = smooth?
« on: October 13, 2005, 06:31:05 AM »
Hey guys, I've laid off of lane 1 for a while now, I have fallen for another brand, but I am looking to grab a house ball that will offer me a strong arc on the back but not be a skid flip monster.  I rev the ball fairly hard with about 16-17mph ball speed.  Right now I have a major gap in my equipment.  I have a remake fire quantum, drilled to not move (5 o'clock drill basicly) and a triple extreme that is drilled leverage that I use as an oil ball and NO i do not need any more than that for oil. I have the issue of not being able to get a good look when I have the triple extreme benched for too much hook too early and the quantum won't hook up strong enough.  The quantum is also way to jumpy to use on much oil because of the drilling I have on it, it is a PURE backend ball.  I want to get something that is well dare I say it here, x factor like in reaction.  Something that will get down the lane a ways, have a slight midlane read and then turn hard but NOT snap on me.  The vid I saw of the Tsunami looked sick on the lane 1 site, but that also looked like it was burning up. So I'm not real sure thats what I would get.  Basicly after all that rambling I guess what I want to know is if I could get a near solid reactive cover backend out of the ball without it turning into a skid flip POS. I wish I could grab a blueberry, but somebody smarter than me quit making them, so I am left to wish.  Anyways, whats the thoughts?

My Tsunami is nowhere near angular....the 4-1/4 Strong layout gives me a solid midlane read with a smooth and arcing backend.

I refer to the Tsunami as a Blueberry on steroids...it's that good.

Try drilling one with the pin 2" off the pap with the mass bias under the thumb.

This drilling will rev midlane and be arcy on the back...give it go I think you'll be impressed.

hmm that vid looks like my release, but I flatten spares out. I too am pretty low in the back swing but come through hard, my wrist says maybe too hard.  Final evaluation on surgery or not comes NOV. 8th, which makes buying a ball plain stupid, but I still want one so i will have it!  I hear blueberry on steroids, I'm not sure I need the roids, but thats the reaction shape I want.  I liked how the BB was strong in the backs but NOT flippy.  It must be a PK18 thing, I had a pk 18 pearl that was nasty too. Maybe thats just my ideal cover or something. Doug do you have them in stock and ready to rock? If so I might have to do some business with ya. I'm in Rochester now, but back to your neck of the woods for a weekend or two in the near future.  maybe I'll drop in and have ya match my ball to what I have ( assuming you can do the oval thumb holes).  N E body else got thoughts on this one?

Crank,

yes I do still have a few in stock and I can do an oval thumb. I don't do it with a mill on a drill press but rather I do them by hand.

I have Oct 22/23 off. We are running a fundraiser tourney on the 23rd so I'll be at the lanes all day anyway.

Drop me an email and I can get you directions.

Thanks!

Crank,
good choice going with Doug.  He's doing a Tsunami and
a Big Time for me.  He did my last two balls and they
were great.  I drove 4 hours from the Berkshires of MA.
He's very knowledgeable  and friendly as heck.  I can't wait
to throw mine I'm like a kid at Christmas.

OHH yeah,
when Doug drilled my last 2 balls I was just barely healing from an accident that had crushed my bowling thumb.  I was worried that it was still swollen and was gonna mess up the size of the thumb hole.  But then again that's what tape's for, RIGHT.  Almost cried the first few times I threw them because the balls were sticking.
