Tsunami v. Blueberry?
« on: April 08, 2006, 01:47:07 PM »
Sawheads,
It has been a while since I purchased a saw, and my Blueberry is showing quite a bit of wear. So, I'm thinking about replacing it. I'm somewhat reluctant because of how well it has worked for me, but it may be time.

The closest thing I see to it in the current Lane 1 lineup is the Tsunami. My questions should now be obvious: 1) How does the Hybrid cover on the Tsunami compare to the PK18 on the Blueberry? 2) In general, for those who've had experience with both, how do they compare?

The term "offset" in the description of the Tsunami core spooks me a little, given how much I liked the separated and stacked mini-diamonds from years past, but otherwise the Tsunami core specs tend to say "control ball" to me--and the reviews generally agree. Just trying to gauge how it compares to the Blueberry.

Thanks,
CK

I can't say anything about the BB cause I've never owned/thrown one.  But you wont be disappointed with the Tsunami.  Not only the core but the cover as well, like you say produce a control ball.  This ball is very smooth, and as long as you don't see heavy oil this ball works well all day long...

The Blueberry was a great ball.  Even reaction, strong enough to play on med-heavy, and the OOB polish on it helped it get through the heads.  It was a good benchmark ball if you could find one.

As good as the Blueberry was, the Tsunami is that much better, in my opinion.  I kind of consider it a Blueberry on steroids.  Mine is drilled label, with the MB locator to the LEFT of the thumbhole, so a little weak-ish.  It is perfect on mediums, and works on med-heavy if I am careful about my speed (not too fast!).

The Tsunami smooths out the reaction from oil to dry, so if you are struggling with a jumpy breakpoint, this is the perfect ball.  Mine never over-reacts... it is super predictable.  It does skate if I try to get it to work on too much oil.

Even with the drill pattern on my Tsunami, it is stronger than my Blueberry, though the reaction shape is very similar.  But until you see the SMOOTH reaction of the Tsunami, it is hard to describe.  Smooth, yet strong!  Both are great balls.

BTW I have a Blueberry for sale if anyone is interested; looking for $60 plus shipping.

Thanks for the responses.

Monster,
Thanks for the offer, but I'm likely to go new if I buy one. I like to buy new and keep for a long time, which is what I've done with my Blueberry--it was newly released when I bought it. The only exception would be a single RH drill with a span very close to mine.

Freak,
I would likely drill the Tsunami label, like yours. That's how I have my Blueberry drilled, and I'm not looking to use it for heavier patterns. Wet-dry medium/medium-heavy is the condition I would want to cover. I want a ball that doesn't make left turns when it hits dry.

The "wall" at my local house is really like a wall! Not much taper or blend--just wet to about 10 and dry from there out. It doesn't necessarily make for an easy shot. The transition on the backend can be a bit abrupt also. I've been told the lane guy doesn't really know how to use the machine. Looking at him, I'm not sure he's going to figure it out anytime soon either--think Napoleon Dynamite after a few hours of smoking weed.

CK, based on how you have described your laned conditions, you are going to LOVE the Tsunami.  It is the perfect choice for the spot you are trying to fill.  Keep us posted!
