Title: Uranium HRG
Post by: windss on September 10, 2007, 06:07:43 AM
Hi all, what kind of ball is the Uranium HRG? is it a heavy oil, med oil or dry lane ball?
Thanks all

I would say medium best suits the ball. That said, you should be able to play it on just about any THS. If you have a heavier THS, scuff the surface and it will go like stink! The HRG has been one of my favorites...smooooth.

I personally consider itmore on the drier side the med, the cover is extremely long, but comes off dry down lane hard,

Agree with the last two posters .. OOB condition best results for me med/light conditions! Find the ball useful in a lot of the SENIOR shots (meaning little/no oil)!

How does it compare to the XL? I used my XL on drier lanes and it was long and snap.

I am left wondering how you guys drilled your HRG, and how you throw it. Mine is drilled pin under ring (4" from PAP), with the CG out 60 degrees so I could add a weight hole 2" down the VAL. Surface is currently scuffed (green Scotchbrite). I do not have a ton of hand (don't know exact rev rate, but I would qualify as a stroker/ power stroker).

On a light-medium THS, I was able to play the HRG just about anywhere on the lane in OOB finish. Up the back release for a down and in shot, and a cupped hand for swinging across the oil.

On a heavier THS, OOB finish was not enough for me to swing through the middle, but I could play it just fine going straight up the boards. I decided to scuff the surface with green Scotchbrite to get the ball to start up a bit sooner. Worked like a charm. The ball is much smoother at the breakpoint and that makes it more predictable. Don't be afraid to play with the surface on this ball. I know others have found the HRG to respond very well to a surface change (some use scotchbrite, some use 1000 grit paper).

I am not saying you can expect to hook the ball coast to coast on a flood, but on most THS shots, there is some dry at the backends and usually to the outside. If this is the case at your house, you should be able to find a line with the HRG.

nova, that is a great drilling for the med shots, I had mine in the 5" pin to pap, cg only out 1" maybe, longer pin ball, it was crazy long, the second one i had was more suited as it was a shorter pin, with pin under ring type drilling and yes it could handle a little more juice as long as i stayed a litted slower with it (17.5 mph 425+ revs)  I found it a great ball (both ov them) when the lanes started to go, the cover was so clean up front that it just floated.  the longer pin was a great drier lane ball, not toast but broken down light oil it was money
