I have a cobalt bomb, on its first drill still, and I think it is time ti redrill it.

The just seems to roll to Early for me.

I want it to fit between my paradigm and my tropical, I know thats a big gap, but a Troad pearl will also be filling the lower end of the gap.

Looking for suggestions on how to drill it.

It is currently drilled, pin @ 5-1/2 CG: 4 3/4

stacked under the ring finger. there are pics and my stats and videos of me in my profile

any suggestions on how I could redrill it?

do you currently have a weight hole? if not i would consider one in the thumb quad if feasible, this should promote more length and a sharper backend. if you redrill, make it pin up and put it more in the 4.5 x 4.5 range

im not an expert but wouldn't a drill closer to the pin make it earlier?

also how large should the hole be?

not necessarily, with the pin down like you have even with the weaker drilling it is still anting to start up in the mids sooner, you nned to get some weight off the thumb and up into the fingers (although the consensus is statics dont matter) finger weight will promote more length. the weight hole will depend on what your ending statics are now

also by placing the pin in a stronger position, doenst always translate to sooner, because i suggested a higher pin, you will see more length with a stronger move on the back. but if you are concerned that it would still be too early, go with the piin above the bridge somewhere in the 5.5 x 4 to 4.5 range, this would give you opportunity to have some side weight to tweak with via a balance hole

I got the statics from my pro shop guy.

Top weight: 7/8 oz
fingers 1/4 oz
right (positive) side: 5/8 oz

just wondering what size of a weight hole you would recommend.

apoc, I would drill the thumbhole deeper, taking the top down to 1/4. This will add finger weight, without taking out any side weight, giving you more length and more backend. Plus, there wouldn't be an extra hole in the ball, so you could adjust it even further after this move. =:^D

You'll get more backend because drilling the thumb deeper acts as a flare increasing extra hole, changing the dynamics of the core, not because of statics.

MegaMav, a flare increasing hole creates an earlier hook and less backend. I believe drilling the thumb deeper would be considered an flare decreasing hole. Therefore, the ball will go longer. Balls that go longer, will give you more backend, provided the ball doesn't skate past/thru the break point.

Static weights determine the ending heavy spot(CG). When the ending CG is closer to your PAP, the ball will go longer and hook harder. When the ending CG is closer to your track, the ball will roll earlier, thus smoother on the backned.

By drilling the thumb deeper, top weight was removed, moving the ending CG closer to his PAP. Thus, the ball will go longer and hook harder, provided the lanes are on the drier side and the ball doesn't slide past/thru the break point. =:^D

MegaMav, please don't give up. More flare does = more hook and probably more backend IN OIL. That's because the ball is rolling earlier..!!

Balls that hook sooner lose more energy sooner and therefor, have less backend as the lanes become drier. =:^D

first thing i thought of thumb hole deeper and if that does not work taking the surface up too 2k and then beans sauce on top.

the surface is already @ 2000 grit with black magic on it...

thing still hooks of the hand
I have a 4000 pad on its way to me too may wait for that to arrive first

So I have an update on the situation with this baby.

My driller to say the least is unreliable, to say the least. Unfortunately he is the only option I have.

he gave me the statics of my ball. (1/4 oz finger and 5/8 positive side)

And I made the decision to start off with drilling the thumb hole deeper to have more finger weight.

Upon doing this he re weighs the ball and tells me that the finger weight is practically zero.

(how this happened I know.

He lined up the ball with his quarter scale, and forgot to remove it when adjusting the weight, so he threw it off on one measurement.

but he provides me a solution, saying that he could put a little bit of plug into the fingers and that should move it up.

so now its pretty much a butchered ball and I am not sure what to do.

he has offered to plug / redrill it @ no cost.

He isn't the original driller of the ball and I love the fit and don't want to lose it.

so I think my only option would be weight hole now or redrill and take the risk.

any new suggestions given these developments?
