cleaner
« on: February 10, 2009, 02:36:34 PM »
I just started using lane 1 balls, and wonder what would be a good cleaner to use after each 3 game set. I like to clean a ball right after league is over.

Probably one of the best industrial strength ball cleaners on the market. Neo-Tac Hook-It doesn't get a lot of press, but it's right up there in effectiveness with Clean 'N Dull. I prefer Hook-It at the alley because it's easier to apply and quickly gets the job done.

It's an embarrassment to compare F409 or the ever popular rubbing alcohol to the above mentioned bowling specific cleaning products. Both CND/Hook-It run circles around generic commercial cleaners. It's not even close.

I like most of the name brand ball cleaners, but I'm currently using Remedy RX.  Because ball cleaner ain't cheap, I usually "pre-clean" my balls with a common household cleaner before I use the expensive stuff.  Lysol 4-in-1 actually does a pretty good job getting the heavy gunk and oil off, and when I follow it up with the good stuff the ball is so tacky it feels like I could almost palm the ball.

Brick: I have to be honest on my assessment of Remedy RX. While the other Valentino products have lived up their 'hype'  (Resurrection, Snake Oil), I haven't been overly impressed with Remedy RX.

It's not that Remedy isn't OK. I find it to be an adequate liquid cleaner on par with Neo-Tac Liquid Nitro. But it's clearly a step down from C&D and Hook-It. I've tried Remedy by hand and on the spinner, but in every comparison test I've done against C&D/Hook-It, the Remedy product did not perform the same level of cleaning. I can always get more junk off the ball with C&D/Hook-It after a Remedy cleaning. The opposite has not been true for me.

I have no vendetta against Valentino because I'm a big believer in Resurrection and Snake Oil. I've turned other bowlers onto those products with success. However, those same bowlers who also ordered Remedy RX are giving me the same feedback that it's just OK -- not a separation from the pack.

Steven, no argument from me that Clean & Dull will clean better than Remedy RX or any other liquid cleaner specifically made for "at the lanes cleaning" of the balls before putting them up for the day. I used Hook-It at one time but quit using it because it is a bit of a hazzardous cleaner to use. Clean & Dull is safer, less hazzardous than Hook-It and both are in a different class and intended for periodic deep cleaning than Remedy RX, Liquid Nitro, etc.

I used to use the Liquid Nitro and liked it very well until I was introduced to Black Magic Ultimate Rejuvenator which I found to clean balls better than Liquid Nitro. Then the Remedy RX became available and I tried it and liked it as well plus a wee bit better than the Rejuvenator and have found both to be a step above the Liquid Nitro for my cleaning of the balls. I have let others try my Remedy RX and they too agree with me that it is a step up from many other similar cleaners such as Liquid Nitro, Ebonite Power Wash, and etc.

Looks like you & I will have to agree to disagree about the effectiveness of Remedy RX.

When we were testing and creating Remedy RX, we were looking to make a versatile cleaner which could be used in between shots to maintain the out of box tack and preformance. All of this while being safe to manufacture and safe to use without using any extremely harmful or cancer causing chemicals.

Is it possible that you will encounter a beltmark Remedy Rx can't remove? It's a possibility, depending on your centers machinery, but can the other USBC certified cleaners in our class (liquid, non-acidic based) take off the beltmark? Some beltmarks require an abrasive to remove them, which is why we market Resurrection as a resurfacer and deep down pore cleaner.

Looking on buddies you can see that some of the other cleaners range in price from $7 to $10 bucks for a 4/5oz. bottle. At $9.95 for an 8oz. bottle Remedy RX it's a great deal. You'll get about 1300+ sprays out of an 8oz. bottle, so say 5 sprays per cleaning, you've got 300+ cleanings at about .03 cents.

We were going to make Remedy RX stronger, but USBC said it would be an unfair advantage and would bring in a tidal wave of 900 series. lol

I have been stocking a new cleaner from a small mom and pop outfit in Texas. The cleaner is called Zapp It.

Their website is www.4zappit.com

It's perhaps the best liquid cleaner I have used. Remedy comes close but the ZappIt is a tad bit better in my opipnion.
