Uranium is an Inferno???
« on: May 19, 2004, 05:08:54 AM »
I have been seeing that people think the Uranium is a Inferno with a higher price tag. I have had both balls. Both drilled the same, with same surface, same pin location , cg location, etc. The Uranium rolls a lot different then the inferno. I am a lot more comfortable with the Uranium and it hits harder because it creates a better sharper angle.

What are your experiences with the Uranium?

No knowledgeable person here at ballreviews, I believe, ever said they were the same ball. They are PROBABLY based on the same Brunswick pearlized Activator coverstock used on the Inferno. The cores are DEFINITELY different; both have very low RGs, but they have different RG differentials. The shape of the core and the different specs and the possibly different surface preparation will, of course, result in different ball paths and ball reactions for most people.

FYI The Lane#1 people, in response to a personal email from me, said the Uranium was definitely a pearlized resin coverstock. Other sources (No, I don't recall who told me; too long ago.) indicated that there was an extremely high probability that it is the same Activator cover that is on the Inferno.

Justin, I've "had" the Inferno and I "have" the Uranium and there is no comparison. The Uranium wins "hands down." My experience with these two balls has been the same as yours.

The Inferno has a very low RG value which is typical of Brunswick balls. This is why Brunswick balls tend to pick up a roll early. The Activator coverstock will get the ball long and give it recovery.

The Uranium also has a very low RG and the same coverstock which leads people to "assume" that they are the same ball. This is not the case. I have also thrown both balls side by side withthe same drill patterns and although I like the Inferno, the Uranium is (at least in my eyes) a superior product.

These 2 balls prove that the shape of the core, no matter how seemingly insignificant, has a drastic effect on ball motion. My Uranium picks up the roll a hair quicker and turns a sharper corner than the Inferno I had.

In fact I just picked up another Uranium for myself that I am going to drill differently. Current one is 5-1/2 x 3-1/2. I am going with a label drill on the next one...something like 3-1/2 x 5 just to get a different look on the lanes.
