Uranium only gets a 40 in BTM??
« on: February 27, 2004, 09:22:47 PM »
Ok, now I am really confused.  I haven't read the
review, just saw the numbers, and the Uranium only gets
an overall hook rating of 40?  I read that the Uranium
is a medium to medium-heavy ball; and that is from Lane 1.

The Activator coverstock is an aggressive one, right?  I mean
the lowest Inferno number was 44 for the Blazing Inferno.

I was all set to get a Uranium, until I read this.  Now I
am very confused.

I agree with what Jimmy T said. Mine hooks as much as my Emerald ( which has a huge hook) and more than my Golden Nugget. If BTM only gave it a 40, treat it with the attitude that BTM is "full of it" and doesn't know what the "H" they are talking about. I'm sure most all others that own the Uranium will tell you this ball has a "H" of a lot more hook than the 40 that BTM gave it. I haven't gotten my copy yet, so I don't know how it rated everything else, but when it comes to hit, it is second to none with it's HIT and leaves way less 10 pins, at least for me.

King, my Uranium isn't only my hardest hitting Saw, it is my hardest hitting ball ever.........And yes, I've left a 10 pin. "H" if you had my accuracy of missing your spot x boards left----x boards right like I do, you would find your self leaving a 10 pin too.

I will agree on this subject.  My uranium is the most aggressive move I have ever had.  Currently, I can only use it from way in.  It is a tad too strong at the breakpoint, but I am not going to change it yet.  The uranium is one of those balls that you keep moving in and it just keeps coming.  I have been adjusting myself to its backend, and moving further right then I would expect to move.

The BTM review has me a little puzzled as well.  When I read it, i did not think it was real accurate.

so is this thing a heavyish ball or what? I had the CB which was supposed to be fairly aggressive and it wasn't all that much ball, more of just a good house ball. I need something above my dynothane element, yes or no? i like the looks of this thing but i can't justify buying it till I get more info

Only you know if you need something more than your ELement.

If you do, try an Anomaly. The Uranium is basically a Lane#1 Inferno. The ULtimate Inferno is also more than the Element. The Uranium is different than an ELement; it's not more or less, just different. Uranium is pearlized resin; Element is solid resin. Element handles medium to medium-heavy oil. Uranium should handle medium oil and up to medium-heavy, if you have more than average hand.

Brick, you're trying to tell me that you've even left a 10 pin with it? I literally haven't left one yet. that's just 15 games though, but this is my hardest hitting saw

Not to hijack the thread but King, I left every back row pin imaginable with the U-Saw and the four pin on good hits that usually carry else where.

I think this ball hits too hard for it's own good...

On a similar note, I also agree with Snakes, the deeper I got with the U-Saw the harder it came back to the hole.  This ball ignored the OB at my home center too, probably one of the strongest backend movers I've thrown in a while, and I own the Green Gargoyle, Drastic Spec-R, and the Littleboy.

this ball has been very unpredictable for me, sometimes it will skid, skid, skid some more then a quarter turn and then skid. other times it will skid skid skid snap 12 boards. i have had a time with the ball myself, first lane 1 i have had this problem with. it is drilled stacked. our house is very heavy oil down to 45 with no wall, carbide bomb loves it , uranium bomb can't stand it. this is also the first diamond core for me , i seem to prfer the bomb core with the flip block myself. i own 2 cherry bombs, a scb, and this uranium thing. i hate to plug it and redrill it but i may have no choice, or just get rid of it. practiced with it the other night, carbide games 177,197...cherry bomb games 193,185.... uranium buzzsaw 192, 144..... very speed and oil sensitive for me. my average is 186 and i have plenty of hand and knowledge of the game, been bowling since 1974.

Freedom, the Uranium is not an oil ball. It is for light to medium and some people have also had success with it on medium-heavy. The ball isn't for the heavy oil condition you used it on and that is why it skidded. Also, stacked drilling doesn't work for everyone on Lane 1 balls. I have nothing but praise for my Uranium so far. It has been an excellent ball for me on medium to medium-light oil. Has also handled carry down well. I have not had the opportunity to use it on heavy oil and probably won't unless the houses I bowl in change their oiling methods.

BTM says 40 for Uranium, 52 for Black Cherry Bomb.....Lane #1 says 23 for both!
Whazzup with that? BTM says 47 for GN, Lane #1 says 24. Very confusing. I have a tendency to believe BTM's numbers. I can't remember the last ball I bought that was significantly different than tested by BTM. So, it appears to me that this ball will be (box condition) a light to medium condition ball. Except for the RG the U-Saws numbers are very similar to a Barbed Wire! This is not what I expected from this ball so this will not be my next saw and I already have a Barbed Wire.

Brick- BTM rated the Emerald at 42, Uranium 40. ( Lane #1 says 19+ and 23 respectively). With your self stated low revs, you must bowl on light oil conditions for your Emerald to hook hard, and I would guess same for the U-saw. I would think that the GN must be rolling out if it breaks LESS than those two. With medium or heavier conditions the GN should outhook the other two.

The young guy that works in a local pro shop has one and he says the Uranium is a very mild ball.  He uses it in a house with light oil conditions.  He likes it, but it isn't anything to brag about in terms of covering boards.

The problem lies in what people call "oily" and "dry".  I've bowled on lanes that I was told were flooded and I hooked it plenty.  The two people I've seen throw it are not the kind of bowlers I can get a read off of, or make an opinion about the ball itself.  Every ball they throw does the exact same thing.

As long as YOU think it's a hook monster, that's all that really matters.

Hardest hitting saw, hardest hitting ball ever? Aren't these one and the same?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Only Buzzsaw, the answer to your question is NO. I've had other balls that hit just as hard as a Buzzsaw, but the Uranium hits harder than any of those balls, so that is the reason for my statement that the Uranium is my "hardest hitting ball ever."....I now throw all Buzzsaws, but I am not going to sit here and say they hit harder than other balls from other companies, because they don't. The Uranium is an exception for me as it does hit harder than any other balls I have ever owned. I throw all Buzzsaws because they match up to me and my style than most ("most" and not all, but "most") other balls I have had.
