The 3M rubbing compound usually has a grit on it. It's in the form of "will remove scratches to a 1500 grit or finer" type of message. Mine has that exactly. This means it has grit in it at that level or smaller. This also means it changes the grit of the finished surface. That's fine on cars and on bowling balls for which you want THAT. However, that is NOT the out-of-the-box finish on the Uranium Pearl or the any of the polished Inferno Pearls.
If you need more length AND less backend than the stock ball, this (a 1500 grit polish, which is what this 3M rubbing compound is), then fine. This i sone way to do it.
Just be aware of what you doing to the ball.
